25 years later, we remember.

This week, a Deer Mountain Fire Protection District t-shirt, signed by members of our department, was carried from Colorado to New York City and brought to the Memorial on September 11 and will be added to the collection of memorabilia for the anniversary.

It was a small gesture representing something much larger: our respect for the 343 FDNY firefighters who gave their lives on September 11, 2001, for all those who were lost that day, and for the first responders whose lives were forever changed by what followed.

Though 25 years have passed, the fire service has not forgotten.

From our small department in the mountains of Colorado to our brothers and sisters in New York City, we remember their courage, their sacrifice, and their service.

Never forget. Always remember. 🇺🇸

The Arkansas River Watershed Collaborative (ARWC) and the Fremont Conservation District are putting on a series of “Mitigation 101” workshops across Fremont County. The goal of these lecture style workshops is to educate residents and property owners in Fremont County about ways they can create defensible space on their property. This helps them protect their property, their neighbor’s property, and assists firefighters with ingress and egress while trying to protect structures and get residents out during evacuations. This will also be an opportunity to have ARWC and Conservation District staff answer any questions or misconceptions that residents and property owners have about mitigation. Hopefully, this will empower and encourage citizens and property owners, and HOA/POA groups to plan around their homes and properties for mitigation actions. Provided mitigation and preparedness resources at the event plus action-item suggestions from professionals will assist residents and property owners in attendance with planning. Attendees will be able to take those materials with them to share with friends, family, neighbors, and community groups.
