One of my very first southwestern art paintings. 11" X 14" acrylic on either masonite or canvas board. Painted around 2005. I saw this picture of the Grand Canyon at dawn, when the sun is just peeping over the horizon. The mesas in the foreground are various shades of a light hazy violet, getting bolder and more defined as they get closer to the viewer. I had originally planned to paint it monochromatic but I tried a little dab of blue green and monochromatic went by the wayside. I lost track of the number of layers of hazy purple I added to get the effect just right. I had no idea that it would turn out this way.

Here is the painting that came from the sketch that I posted on Thursday. It was the first acrylic painting I had done in actual decades. Until then I exclusively used watercolor. It was very strange painting with acrylics and I felt like I was starting all over again, which I pretty much was. Even though acrylics and watercolor are both water based, they are very different in most categories. This was all one big experiment and I was patient. It was a learning experience, just like any painting. Or drawing. Or cartoon. You get the picture. 11" X 14" acrylic on canvas board.

In my last post about Mouthville, you’ll recall that I took creative license with regards to the use of a microscope. In this post I will be taking “scientific license” regarding the measurement of oral bacteria. Is there such a thing as scientific license? Who knows? As far as I know, I’m just making it up. But that’s the beauty of creating a cartoon story. You can do ANYTHING in cartoons. You can drop a safe on a bothersome coyote in the middle of the Arizona desert. You can drop a grand piano on him. Or an ACME anvil. And he’ll live to see the next frame. In reality, micro organisms are measured in micrometers, or in microns, involving decimal points and a whole lotta zeros. What?!?!? My solution to this micro-madness? The Official Mouthville measuring chart. (I made that up too.) Instead of listing measurements using scientific jargon, I used easy to understand layman’s terms. Like SMALL, HEAD OF A PIN SMALL and a lot of rhyming words like EEEENSY, TEENSY, WEENSY, but I stopped just short of using the word "SCHMEENSY. And I aint making that up. Stay tooned!

B.B. KING. Born Riley King on September 16, 1925 on a cotton plantation in Itta Bena, Mississippi. A.K.A.: King of the Blues. Guitar of choice: Gibson ES 335 "Lucille", named after a woman who two men fought over in a juke joint in Twist, Arkansas, knocking over a kerosene stove and burning the joint to the ground. Realizing he had left his guitar in the burning club, King ran in and rescued his guitar, almost costing him his life. With B.B. King, the thrill is never gone. Fred Vitis here. It's been a while. Fell behind on my posts. Been helping my creator ( yes, some cartoonists have an inflated opinion of themselves) work on his website and his cafepress store at http://lnkd.in/u79EAW Lots of cool affordable holiday gift ideas with funny and cool artwork on them. Like this Patriot Fatboy Motorcycle coffee mug. Holds 15oz. of hot joe. Would order one myself, but, since I'm a microscopic organism, I'll opt for the tee shirt instead. ########################XX Small less

Alas! A fond adieu to the show some have called "Guidos Behaving Badly." The show that won the race to the bottom. Kim Kardashian could get married every day between now until doomsday and "Keeping Up With The Kar Crashians" would still look like PBS in comparison. Yo, later!!!

On May 20 I published one of my weekly cartoons of a bird doing his business in a dog's bowl, much to the consternation of the dog. Now, forty hand-drawn frames later, it comes to life in dazzling....black & white! And that dog STILL ain't happy! Look for more Doody doodles Weekly cartoons and other projects to come to life in the future. Then, go change your dog's water bowl.
