Last night at our monthly meeting we welcomed home our own Evan Smith. Evan just finished up his tour in the middle east with the U.S. Army. We are very glad to have him return home safe and sound, and look forward to having him back around the firehouse. Welcome home Evan and thank you for your service.

Last night our firefighters along with Hebron Fire drilled on vehicle stabilization and extraction. It was a great night of refresher training focused on response preparedness, safety, and efficiency for MVA scenes.

Thank you to everyone for your continued focus on community!

The snow is gone and the early spring winds are busy drying things out. As a reminder, the burn ban goes into effect tomorrow, March 16th. Every spring we see small grass and brush fires turn into major forestry fires, endangering life and property. Here is a list of what is allowed and what is not.

NYS SPRING BURN BAN IN EFFECT TOMORROW (MARCH 16th)
NYS's Ban on Outdoor Burning will be in effect beginning tomorrow (March 16th) and remains in effect through May 14th.

Washington County, NY - Department of Public Safety Fire Coordinator Glenn Bristol said, “Every spring we see how fast a simple brush fire can turn into a dangerous wildfire. Dry grass, wind, and one spark can put our communities and our firefighters at serious risk. New York State's annual spring Burn Ban exists to stop those fires before they start. We’re asking everyone in Washington County to respect the ban and do their part to keep our communities and our first responders safe.”

WHAT IS NOT ALLOWED
🚫 Burning of brush or yard debris
🚫 Open fires used to burn leaves or trash (of any kind)
🚫 Large uncontained fires

WHAT IS ALLOWED
✅ Small backyard fire pits (contained)
✅ Campfires
✅ Small fires for cooking
✅ Agricultural burns (in compliance with DEC regulations)

Have questions regarding the state's Open Burning law? Check here first: https://dec.ny.gov/environmental-protection/air-quality/open-burning

Our departments and members spend countless hours learning and drilling life and property saving skills.

Tonight Firefighters from Cossayuna Fire and Hebron Fire donned our ice rescue suits, broke through the ice, and refreshed our Ice Water Rescue skills. Rescuing each other from frigid water and unsafe ice on the Mill Pond.

We hope these skills are never needed in our communities however we drill to make sure we are ready to respond to a call for help.

At 0640 this morning we were dispatched to a reported structure fire on County Route 49. First arriving units confirmed a working fire with heavy fire through the roof and second story of the structure. Officers confirmed that all residents and pets had evacuated the structure safely. Temperatures were recorded at -20 degrees and made operations very difficult due to equipment and personel freezing up in the cold conditions. The cause of the fire is not considered suspicious and appears to be due to a heating source malfunction. After the majority of the fire was knocked down another structure fire was reported in the Argyle Kingsbury area. Argyle was released from the scene to go and battle another fire. We would like to extend a huge thank you to all of our mutual aid departments who assisted on scene, provided water supply operations, as well as multiple stand by assignments. Thank you all and stay safe!!
