Cover Crops Will Be Flown Over Coshocton County TODAY - September 8
Look to the skies on Tuesday, September 8, as Fisher Crop Care by Air takes to the air to seed more than 1,400 acres of corn and soybean fields throughout Coshocton County.
Weather permitting, the aerial seeding will take place from daylight until dark and is expected to be completed in one day. Pilots will fly close to the ground and make several passes over each field to ensure good seed coverage.
Only cover crop seed will be dropped from the aircraft. No herbicides or pesticides are being applied. The seed will germinate and begin growing before the crops are harvested this fall, providing valuable cover on fields throughout the winter months.
Cover crops help reduce soil erosion, improve soil health, and protect valuable farmland during the winter months when fields would otherwise be left bare.
The Coshocton Soil and Water Conservation District is proud to coordinate this program for the 14th consecutive year, working with local landowners to promote conservation and protect the county’s valuable soil and water resources.
So, if you hear or see an airplane flying low over the fields today, don’t be alarmed—it’s conservation taking flight! 🌱🌿✈️
