We had the pleasure of hosting the 2026 Area 3 Envirothon on April 22nd, welcoming 52 of the region’s top teams to compete for a chance to advance to the Ohio Envirothon, scheduled for June 1–3 at Franciscan University including our very own students from the Coshocton County Career Center, River View and Ridgewood.

The Envirothon is a hands-on environmental and natural resource competition designed to test students’ knowledge and awareness of real-world environmental issues. Teams competed in five major subject areas: Aquatics, Forestry, Soils/Land Use, Wildlife Management, and a current environmental issue. This year’s topic, “Nonpoint Source Pollution—It Begins at Home,” challenged students to think critically about everyday impacts on water quality and the environment.

The Envirothon curriculum provides students with valuable, hands-on experience in ecology and natural resource management while emphasizing teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Through this program, students gain a deeper understanding of environmental stewardship and the role they play in protecting natural resources.

Many Envirothon participants go on to pursue careers in environmental fields such as natural resource management, conservation, and environmental law, while others carry their environmental knowledge into a wide range of professions.

The district extends its appreciation to the volunteers, educators, and partners who made the event possible, as well as the students whose participation supports the future of conservation efforts.
