One more hot day is expected across our area today as a couple of rounds of showers and thunderstorms move through.

🌡️⛈️ HEAT ADVISORY & STORM UPDATE ⛈️🌡️

The end of this heat wave is finally within sight! A cold front is expected to move through the region late Saturday into Saturday night, bringing some relief from the prolonged heat. Until then, we have one more very hot day ahead.

⚠️ HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH 8 PM EDT SATURDAY

🌡️ Heat Concerns:

• High temperatures in the mid to upper 90s

• Heat index values of 100°–107°F

• Continue to limit strenuous outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on those who may be especially vulnerable to the heat.

⛈️ STORM CHANCES:

In addition to the heat, there is the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms through the remainder of today and again Saturday afternoon and evening.

Scattered showers and storms have developed mainly south of I-64 this afternoon, with a few capable of producing gusty winds. While an isolated severe storm cannot be completely ruled out, the overall severe weather threat remains low today.

⚠️ SATURDAY: Portions of east-central Kentucky are under a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather. The primary concern with any stronger storms will be damaging winds.

Confidence in severe weather remains somewhat limited and will depend on the timing of the cold front and how much thunderstorm development occurs Saturday afternoon and evening.

📱 Keep an eye on the weather, especially if you have outdoor plans Saturday, and make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.

☀️ HEAT ADVISORY EXTENDED THROUGH SATURDAY ☀️

The prolonged stretch of hot weather will continue into the weekend, with the Heat Advisory now extended through Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m. EDT (7:00 p.m. CDT).

🌡️ What to Expect:

🔥 Friday: High temperatures will reach the mid to upper 90s, with some locations potentially reaching 100°F again.

🔥 Saturday: Confidence remains high for continued heat across southern Kentucky and areas along and west of I-65, where highs could reach the upper 90s. Farther east and into the Bluegrass region, temperatures will depend on cloud cover and possible thunderstorm activity.

🥵 Heat Index: Afternoon heat index values of 100°–107°F remain possible. Overnight temperatures will only fall into the mid to upper 70s, providing limited relief from the heat.

⛈️ Storm Chances: Isolated thunderstorms are possible this afternoon, with chances below 20%. Storm chances increase to 30–50% on Saturday, and some storms could produce strong, damaging winds and hail.

⚠️ Please continue to take precautions during this extended period of heat. Stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, check on vulnerable family members and neighbors, and never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle.

Today could be the hottest day of our ongoing heat wave.

The weather pattern responsible for the prolonged stretch of hot temperatures is expected to reach its peak today before conditions slowly begin to change as we head toward the end of the week and into the weekend.

⚠️ Please continue to take precautions in the heat:

💧 Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.

🏠 Spend time in air conditioning whenever possible.

🌳 Take frequent breaks if you must work or spend time outdoors.

🕐 Limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.

👵 Check on older adults, neighbors, and others who may be especially vulnerable to the heat.

🐾 Make sure pets have plenty of fresh water and a cool place to rest.

🚗 Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle.

Even though some relief may be on the horizon, we still have another very hot day to get through today.

The ongoing heat wave will peak today and Thursday, with dangerously hot conditions continuing into Friday.

🌡️ What to Expect:

• The Heat Advisory has been extended through Friday evening at 8:00 p.m. EDT / 7:00 p.m. CDT.
• Afternoon highs will reach the mid to upper 90s, with some locations potentially reaching 100°F by Thursday.

• Heat index values of 100°–107°F are expected during the afternoon hours.

• Overnight temperatures will only fall into the mid to upper 70s, providing limited relief from the heat.

⚠️ Please take precautions during this extended period of extreme heat:

💧 Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.

🏠 Spend time in air-conditioned spaces whenever possible.

🌳 Limit strenuous outdoor activities, especially during the hottest part of the day.

👵 Check on older adults, neighbors, and others who may be especially vulnerable to the heat.

The heat wave continues across our region, and the Heat Advisory has now been expanded across the entire area through Thursday evening.

🥵 What to Expect:

• Afternoon heat index values of 100°–107°F

• Hot conditions continuing through Thursday

• Limited relief overnight, with temperatures only falling into the 70s

⚠️ Please take precautions during this extended period of heat:

• Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated 💧

• Limit strenuous outdoor activities, especially during the hottest part of the day

• Take frequent breaks in air-conditioned or shaded areas

• Check on older adults, neighbors, and others who may be especially vulnerable to the heat

• Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle — even for a few minutes 🚗

• Keep pets supplied with plenty of fresh water and shade 🐾

Emergencies and disasters can happen when we least expect them, but taking a few simple steps today can make a big difference when it matters most. Throughout September, the Harrison County Health Department and Harrison County Emergency Management Agency encourage everyone to take time to make a plan, build or update an emergency preparedness kit, and talk with family members about what to do during an emergency. Being prepared doesn’t have to happen all at once—start small, add a few items at a time, and make preparedness part of your family’s routine. Be prepared. Be ready. Together, we can help make Harrison County a safer and more resilient community! 💙💚

☀️🌡️ HEAT RETURNS THIS WEEKEND 🌡️☀️

After several weeks of relatively mild temperatures, a stretch of unseasonably hot weather is expected to begin late this weekend and continue into the first week of September.

🌡️ What to Expect:

• High temperatures in the 90s

• Heat index values in the upper 90s to around 100°F

• Hot conditions continuing for several days

• Limited chances for rainfall through much of the week

• Dry conditions may begin to redevelop across the area

⚠️ With temperatures climbing quickly after the cooler weather we’ve enjoyed recently, please start planning now for the return of the heat.

💧 Stay hydrated and take frequent breaks if working outdoors.
🏠 Check on older adults, neighbors, and others who may be especially vulnerable to the heat.

🐾 Make sure pets have plenty of fresh water and access to shade or air conditioning.

🚗 Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle — even for a short period of time.
