🌪️ Wayne County Tornado Drill Reminder 🌪️

Wayne County residents are encouraged to participate in the Iowa Statewide Tornado Drill on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at 10:00 AM (CST). This is a great time for households, schools, and workplaces to review and practice their severe weather safety plans.

During the drill, you may see or hear:
📻 Alerts through TV, radio, or NOAA Weather Radio
📱 Notifications from weather apps or alert systems
🚨 Outdoor warning sirens activated in some areas

This is only a drill—but taking it seriously helps ensure you’re prepared when real severe weather occurs.

🌪️ Be Ready, Stay Safe
Tornadoes can develop quickly, often with little warning. Knowing your plan ahead of time can make all the difference.

Safety tips to review:
🏠 At Home: Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest level, away from windows
🏫 At School or Work: Follow established safety procedures and go to your designated shelter area
🌳 Outdoors: Seek shelter in a sturdy building right away—avoid vehicles or open areas

Take a few minutes during the drill to walk through your plan with your family or team.

Wayne County Emergency Management encourages everyone to participate and be prepared. Stay weather-aware and stay safe! 🌪️

Thank you to the City of Corydon, Iowa for the help with traffic control

The FFA Tractor Parade route for Wayne Community Schools is pictured below and will begin at approximately 2pm.

It will begin at the high school, go around the square and then west toward West St. (Elementary Road) on Highway 2. From there they will turn south on West St., through the Wayne Elementary loop, east on South St. and continue past the Care Center. It will then travel around Walden Park and the Golf Course, drive past Murphy Place to the north of the hospital and the parade will end at the intesection by Magical Beginnings at Highway 2. The tractors will disperse in different directons from there.

Please be mindful of them on the roads in your afternoon travels.

Morning commuters in Corydon, today is FFA Drive a Tractor to School Day at Wayne Community Schools. This morning a procession of tractors will be leaving the Wayne Sports Complex around 7:15 am. They will be following the truck route by Shivver’s to Highway 14, south to the square and then on to the school from State Street.

They will have another parade later this afternoon. A separate post with the route will follow.

Had a nice visit this afternoon with Cathy Gicante-Jones. Cathy is the daughter of former Wayne County Sheriff Gilbert Sanders and she was kind enough to stop in and donate a plaque made for Sheriff Sanders many years ago.

Thank you Cathy, it was very thoughtful and we will find place to display this plaque at the Sheriff’s Office.

After the evacuation last night, would like to again promote our FREE APP available for download in the App Store and Google play.

This app is used for real time notifications in all manner of situations, similar to last nights fire and evacuation incident. While we try to post information on multiple platforms, such as Facebook, for maximum awareness, the Sheriff’s App will typically always be the first notification to go out and in some cases could be the only platform in which information or notifications are sent out from our Office.
