It is with great sadness that we share the passing of LtCol Nelson Olf on May 27, 2026.

LtCol Olf was a proud Oregon State University alumnus, a distinguished Marine officer, and a steadfast supporter of the Beaver Battalion. Through his generosity and commitment to developing future leaders, he established multiple scholarships that have helped countless NROTC midshipmen at Oregon State University pursue their education and earn commissions as officers in the Navy and Marine Corps.

His enduring connection to Oregon State University and his unwavering belief in leadership, service, and education left a lasting impact on generations of Beaver Battalion students. More than a donor, LtCol Olf was a champion of our mission and a dedicated advocate for the young men and women preparing to serve our nation.

In recognition of his contributions and commitment to the development of future officers, the Beaver Battalion obstacle course was dedicated in his name. Every midshipman who trains on the LtCol Nelson Olf Obstacle Course is a testament to the enduring legacy he leaves behind.

The Beaver Battalion extends its deepest condolences to the Olf family, friends, fellow alumni, and all those whose lives were touched by his generosity and leadership.

Those wishing to share memories, stories, or condolences are encouraged to visit LtCol Olf's tribute wall:

On Monday, May 25th, members of the Beaver Battalion participated in the Memorial Day ceremony hosted by the Benton County Veterans Memorial. The ceremony honored those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, as well as those missing in action. The ceremony included the setting up of the POW/MIA table, stacking of the rifles, boots, and helmet, the posting of the wreath, and a 21-gun salute.

This week's Student Spotlight is Midshipman Fourth Class Milee Bryant!

MIDN Bryant is finishing up her freshman year here at OSU studying Political Science with a focus in International Relations! Her goal in the Navy is to commission as a Surface Warfare Officer and someday even become a Foreign Area officer. In the meantime, she is looking forward to going to CORTRAMID this summer and being a squad leader this fall.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with my family and friends, being outdoors, and doing water sports such as wakeboarding and wake surfing! A fun fact about MIDN Bryant is that she is currently the treasurer for the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) team and loves working with animals!

Today our very own LT Josué Zamora was the Show and Tell subject at his son, Peter's, school. He shared with the students about his job in the Navy as a helicopter pilot and answered their questions about what it was like to be in the military.
