📢 Registration is open for the Better Process Control School Workshop!

Join Oregon State University's Department of Food Science & Technology for a three-day training program designed for processors of acidified foods and low-acid canned foods.

The Better Process Control School (BPCS) provides training in FDA and USDA-FSIS regulations and good manufacturing practices (GMPs), helping prepare supervisors for responsibilities in acidification, thermal processing, and container closure evaluation.

📅 Dates: November 4-6, 2026
🕗 Time: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm daily
📍 Location: OSU Food Innovation Center, 1207 NW Naito Pkwy #154, Portland, OR 97209
💲 Full 3-day course: $875 per person

The full course covers acidified foods, low-acid canned foods, and aseptic processing.

🏆 Congratulations to Dr. Cecile Chenot on receiving the Best Presentation Award at the 2026 European Brewery Convention (EBC) Congress in Rotterdam!

The EBC Congress is one of the premier international scientific and technical meetings in brewing, bringing together leading researchers and industry scientists to share advances in brewing, fermentation, malting, and brewing science. Held every two years, the 2026 Congress drew more than 500 brewing scientists and professionals, primarily from across Europe but with broad international participation.

Among approximately 50 scientific presentations delivered over two and a half days, Cecile’s work was selected for the Best Presentation Award - a significant recognition at one of the brewing community’s most important scientific gatherings.

Her award-winning presentation examined thiol release and yeast metabolism during b**r fermentation, providing new insight into the biological mechanisms governing the formation of key aroma compounds.

✨ Meet Brittney Sorweide, a student in OSU Food Science and Technology’s program, and the first brewing intern at Block 15 since 2019!

This summer, Brittney had the opportunity to work throughout the brewery at both Block 15 locations in Corvallis, gaining hands-on experience in all aspects of a brewer’s job. Founded in 2008, Block 15 has been a longtime supporter of OSU’s Department of Food Science and Technology, hiring many of our graduates. Today, several Block 15 employees are proud OSU FST alumni!

Brittney says this internship was the perfect fit because its part-time schedule allowed her to continue working at the Beaver Classic Creamery, where she makes cheese and ice cream. Staying in Corvallis for the summer also made preparing for the upcoming school year much easier.

One of the most exciting parts of the internship? Brittney got to brew her own b**r to be served on tap! Inspired by the flavors of the Willamette Valley and her home state of Oregon, she created a Hazy IPA with blackberry and wood sorrel. 🍻🌿

With part of the proceeds from Brittney’s b**r, Block15 is giving back to the OSU Food Science and Technology program; a program that has influenced so many employees at Block15. Their donation goes directly back to the brewing program in FST providing PPE for those who work in the labs and pilot brewery.

Want to try her Willamette Valley-inspired creation? Her b**r will be on tap at both Block 15 locations in Corvallis starting September 18th.
