The Cortland Police Department is small but ever growing to keep pace with the needs of this growing community. All are certified by the Law Enforcement Training Standards Board and are trained and certified in specialized fields of law enforcement to better meet the needs of the community. We are a proactive law enforcement agency routinely applying community oriented policing strategies in addre

ssing local concerns, enhancing public safety, and preventing crime. The Cortland Police Department is dispatched through the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office E9-1-1 Center. Patrol and investigative services are supplemented by the Sheriff's Police. In addition, the Department utilizes the expertise of the North Central Narcotics Task Force in the investigation of suspected or reported drug activity. The expertise of the DeKalb County Major Crimes Task Force is available in the event of a major violent crime.

The Cortland Police Department is under the command of Chief Lin Dargis and has an authorized strength of 3 full-time and 12 part time officers.
