Upon graduation, Becky attended Kent State University to follow in her mother and grandmother’s footsteps in becoming a nurse. Becky earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing and went on to pass her state boards. She worked at different hospitals and spent some time as a cook at Hiram College before finding her true nursing passion. Becky loved working with individuals with developmental disabilities. She spent many years working as a floor nurse and eventually becoming a Nurse Manager at Hattie Larlham. Becky was known to be a kind, no-nonsense, go-getter of a nurse and she had many friends- in the residents, their families and her coworkers. She continued her care working at an out-patient clinic for these individuals and their families. Rest easy Becky. Thank you to Green Funeral Care for caring for our sister.

After graduating from Fairfield Waterford High School in 1960, Marilyn Chiu attended the Youngstown Hospital Association School of Nursing, graduating in 1963. Marilyn started her lifelong devotion of helping others as a floor nurse at the old North Side Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio where she met her husband, Dr. Y.T. Chiu. They married March 14, 1964 and spent 62 years building and growing the family they both cherished above all else.

After having her four children, she returned to school to get her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Youngstown State University, one class at a time, while being a devoted mother and running her kids around to their various activities. Notably, for years, she was also a Girl Scout troop leader for a troop of nearly 50 girls and delighted in taking them camping and creek walking. She completed her BSN in 1984 and then earned her Master of Science Degree in Nursing from Kent State University with a specialty in psychiatric nursing. She spent the next several years as the director of the extended care unit at Woodside Receiving Hospital in Youngstown. Marilyn finished her working career as a counselor for individuals, families, and for those who suffered with AIDS and addiction. Well done Marilyn. Thank you to Stark Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory for caring for our sister.

On Monday, Steffon Jones, Oak Hill Cemetery Historian told us of the veteran nurses buried in Oak Hill. Nurse Edith Morgan was highlighted. Ms Morgan was a WWI veteran nurse who was in France and struck by shrapnel. She was crippled for seven years and then returned to the states. She worked at the Cleveland Clinic when there was a fire May 15, 1929. She went into help others when she died due to the poisonous gases. Well done Edith. We look forward to the privilege of honoring her at a posthumous service.
