After a balmy Saturday, rain chances return as showers and storms are expected to form along a passing cold front throughout the day Sunday. Strong wind gusts, as well as occasional lightning have a chance to derail any outdoor plans, so remain weather aware.

Scattered storms will continue into Monday morning, exiting to the southeast by late Monday afternoon and evening. Locally heavy rainfall, lightning, and isolated strong wind gusts will be the primary threats. If you encounter a flooded roadway, Turn Around, Don’t Drown!

After an active end to the weekend, afternoon highs will once again return to the mid 90’s. A return of Gulf moisture will lead to scattered showers and storms by the end of the week, as well as a rise in heat indices across the region. Remember to stay hydrated!

A weak front approaching from the north will bring scattered thunderstorms to portions of North Texas late tonight through Friday afternoon. The greatest storm coverage is expected generally north of I-20 from after midnight through midday Friday. While the overall severe weather threat remains low, a few storms may produce gusty winds and frequent lightning. Most locations south of I-20 are expected to remain dry and warm, with afternoon temperatures reaching the low to mid 90s.

Heat and humidity will combine to produce afternoon heat index values between 99 and 105 degrees on Saturday. Anyone spending extended time outdoors should take precautions to avoid heat-related illness by staying hydrated, taking frequent breaks, and limiting strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day.

Rain and thunderstorm chances will increase across North and Central Texas Sunday and continue into Monday as a frontal boundary settles into the region. The primary concerns will be frequent lightning and periods of heavy rainfall. While not everyone will see flooding, localized flooding may develop where storms repeatedly move over the same locations or move slowly. If you have outdoor plans this weekend, be prepared for possible interruptions due to nearby thunderstorms and keep up with the latest forecast updates.
