A new look!

Thanks to the efforts of a long faithful director, the entrance to these hallowed grounds has received a much needed face lift.

The previous entry was made possible by another dedicated director, the late O'Lena Jones Perkins - who, along with her husband, inventoried the entire cemetery in the early 2000's. The data was compiled into a book and sold - with all proceeds designated for a decorative entrance. (A commemorative plaque is located on the right post.) Those efforts served the cemetery well for approximately 25 years. Unfortunately, the elements, and also a piece of equipment some years back, had taken a toll on the entryway.

A couple of months ago, a director (who wishes no recognition) took to task the chore of having a replacement - or upgrade - constructed. It is through his vision and design, along with his generosity and relationships, that the Union Springs Cemetery entrance has been greatly enhanced.

The skillful hands of Chris Felder crafted the piece in his Moscow shop; with Charles Kennedy handling the painting. Mr. Felder installed the piece this past Wednesday.

The Union Springs Cemetery Association is extremely appreciative of the talents AND charity provided by each of these three gentlemen!

● Photo says says most everything.
While it is obvious "what and where" have happened, the "how" and "when" are not clear.
It is difficult to imagine clipping a monument and not being aware of that action.

● Also, a No MOW MARCH, including weeding, was in place for Sections 1,2, and 4, to allow time for some "potential" wildflowers to evolve. Occasionally, odd things surprisingly pop-up....even a bluebonnet or two. After a review of the grounds yesterday, this will stay içn place until April 15."

Please be patient, AND don't fault the caretakers. ;)

Harmless? Why does the cemetery association continually harp on the topic of "items placed on the ground"?
SEE COMMENTS FOR EXPLANATION.

There's more to the reasoning than one may think.

There are almost 3,000 monuments in Union Springs Cemetery. Mr. Willie O'Pry's, located in Section 1, may be one of the most intriguing. The epitaph presents a mystery.
▪︎ No date of birth, age only
▪︎ "Killed by Engine 125"

Mr. O'pry's demise has been of particular interest to one of our directors for quite some time. Look for an upcoming "comment" to be posted below with more information on his untimely passing.

These items have been on a few grave sites for more than a week. As stated in the USCA Rules posted here on Facebook, as well as at the entrance, this is not acceptable on the cemetery grounds. (Ie. on ground and too large for base; also, while not particularly specified in rules, materials are not weather resistant and will soon create a litter issue)

Your assistance in keeping the grounds neat and free of potential debris issues is appreciated.

⭐Items remaining after this Thursday, November 20, will be removed and discarded.

From all accounts, our community - working together - was able to supply order, dignity and peace to those who laid a loved one to rest in Union Springs Cemetery.

The dignity and peace always expected while on the hallowed grounds of the Union Springs Cemetery.

Union Springs Cemetery Association is also highly appreciative of the complimentary notes of gratitude received from families and friends in attendance of the services.

The contracted maintenance/grounds crew do NOT remove items from gravesites. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE FAMILY, or a SECTION VOLUNTEER to discard these items!

The contracted crew is unable to adequately care for a site if covered with old flowers or other debris.

IF you are bothered by a site such as this, please consider volunteering your time to assist when a family may be unable to attend to such.

A clean gravesite allows the cemetery grounds to be kept clear of unsightly growth.

Thank you.
