Please take a moment today and remember our fallen brother, Vicente Ortiz JR and his family in your thoughts and prayers as today marks the Twp year anniversary of Vicente's End-of-Watch. Below is a narrative kept and read each month at the Association in Vicente's honor. Vicente is the seventeenth CCPD Officer killed in the Line-of-Duty while serving and protecting Corpus Christi. May God find peace for Vicente, his family and the entire CCPD family at this difficult time.
Vicente Ortiz JR – June 1, 2024

Senior Police Officer Vicente Ortiz succumbed to injuries sustained 10 days earlier when he was involved in a motorcycle crash while escorting a funeral procession. He was traveling southbound on Kostoryz Road when another driver attempted to cross the road at the intersection with Sacky Drive. Officer Ortiz was unable to stop and struck the other vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital where he underwent multiple surgeries before succumbing to his injuries. Officer Ortiz had served with the Corpus Christi Police Department for 15 years. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Please take a moment today and remember our fallen brother, Elias T. Mussett Jr. and his family in your thoughts and prayers as today marks the one hundred and thirty-four year anniversary of Elias' End-of-Watch. Below is a narrative kept and read each month at the Association in Elias' honor. Elias was the first CCPD Officer killed in the Line-of-Duty while serving and protecting Corpus Christi. May God find peace for Elias, his family and the entire CCPD family at this difficult time.


Elias T. Mussett (City Marshal) – May 6, 1892

City Marshall Elias Mussett Jr. had stopped to speak with a subject standing outside the Pancho Grande bar on Leopard St at the conclusion of the day long Cinco de Mayo festivities. As Mussett spoke with him, a subject named John Parker rode up in the dark to Mussett’s side and fired one shot from his pistol killing Mussett immediately. Parker fled and went downtown to the police station located on Mesquite St and turned himself in. Parker was charged with murder and his trial began within one day of the crime. Parker was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison with hard labor in Huntsville, Texas at the Walls Unit. Mussett is the first In the Line of Duty Death of an officer in our department. He was survived by his wife and two children.

Please take a moment today and remember our fallen brother, Kyle Hicks and his family in your thoughts and prayers as today marks the two year anniversary of Kyle's End-of-Watch. Below is a narrative kept and read each month at the Association in Kyle's honor. Kyle is the sixteenth CCPD Officer killed in the Line-of-Duty while serving and protecting Corpus Christi. May God find peace for Kyle, his family and the entire CCPD family at this difficult time.

Kyle Hicks – April 24, 2024
Police Officer Kyle Hicks succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained four days earlier while responding to a domestic disturbance in the 4900 block of Burnham Drive. He and another officer located the apartment at about 12:30 am and could hear a man and woman arguing inside. A male subject came to the door, and a struggle ensued, during which Officer Hicks was shot. The other officer was able to return fire and killed the subject. Officer Hicks was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. His organs were donated. Officer Hicks had served with the Corpus Christi Police Department for two years. Please take a moment today and remember our fallen brother, Roy N. Smith and his family in your thoughts and prayers as today marks the seventy-three year anniversary of Roy's End-of-Watch. Below is a narrative kept and read each month at the Association in Roy's honor. Roy was the fifth CCPD Officer killed in the Line-of-Duty while serving and protecting Corpus Christi. May God find peace for Roy, his family and the entire CCPD family at this difficult time.

Roy Newton Smith – April 20, 1953

On April 16, 1953, Patrol Officer Roy Newton Smith was responding to a fight call when his patrol car was struck by another car at Staples and Lipan. Smith was 21 years old and had been on the department for just 4 months at the time of this tragic accident. Roy was married to Laverne Smith and had come here from Wichita Falls, Texas to work at the department. Roy and Laverne had one daughter Gail. Roy served with distinction in the Army having served in the Korean conflict before joining the department. Patrol Officer Smith died four days later due to injuries he received from the crash.
