Project Turnaround doesn't serve just youth; we serve the community. Community involvement in substance prevention is impactful; it carries weight that matters.
Here, Project Turnaround visits community members at a local senior center to offer fun, socially interactive activities they can take home and use with their own families.

Strong, positive family interaction is one of the most important protective factors for youth. The more we strengthen those connections, the more we support healthier, substance-free futures.

Our students from Calallen enjoyed making characters from air dry clay. Pictured above are students' creative masterpieces. One student decided to create both SpongeBob and Patrick. Air Dry clay comes in a variety of colors that you can mold to make creative designs. Taking a break from technology to make something can be a great way to calm the mind and relax your body from daily life stressors.

Healthy, supportive friendships are one of the strongest protective factors in staying substance-free.

What makes a healthy friendship?
• Trust and honesty
• Respect for boundaries
• Encouragement to make positive choices
• Support during difficult moments
• Having fun without substances

Youth who have friends who use substances are more likely to use themselves; it's important for youth to have strong, supportive peer relationships to avoid risky behaviors. The people you surround yourself with matter. Choosing friends who respect your goals and support a substance-free lifestyle can make all the difference.

At Project Turnaround, we focus on helping youth recognize healthy vs. unhealthy friendships and build connections that support their future.

Project Turnaround stopped by the on Third Thursday to share a fun craft with the community. We encouraged art lovers to design and color their own tote bags. Project H.O.P.E. Held our 4th Annual Community Park Cleanup on Saturday, April 18th! This initiative aims to continue collecting data on the amount of A.T.O.D. related litter at parks in the Coastal Bend in hopes of amending our current city's smoking prohibition ordinance to include all city-operated parks!

This community initiative would not be possible without each and every one of our community partners! Thank you to Harold T. Branch Academy, Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation, Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center, Elevate361, Cunningham at South Park, Girl Scout of America - Troop #9213, St Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, Corpus Christi Police Department Dispatchers, The Purple Door, C2 GPS, Timons Ministries, and all of our community members who joined us in helping beautify our community parks!

This year, we were able to collect 3,806 Cigarette Butts, 17 Vapes, 55 Cigars/Cigarillos, 7 Packaging/Wrappers, and 19 Others (A.T.O.D. Related Litter)! This years data has been added to what we collected in years past bringing our grand total of A.T.O.D. Related litter collected in our park cleanups to: 14,791 Cigarette Butts, 84 Vapes, 86 Cigars/Cigarillos, 34 Packaging/Wrappers, and 38 Others (A.T.O.D. Related Litter)

Over the past four years, we have collected close to 15,000 CIGARETTE BUTTS in 7 parks in the Coastal Bend area. By compiling this data, we aim to showcase the trend of A.T.O.D. litter in our community parks and the environmental impacts it has on our beloved city. Cigarette butts remain the #1 littered item in the United States and these small pieces of litter have huge implications for our environment and health of our community. Thank you again to every single person who joined us this past Saturday and continue to support Project H.O.P.E.'s mission of Clearing The Air!
