At the Corpus Christi Black Chamber of Commerce’s State of the Black Business Forum, economist and author William Michael Cunningham challenged us to think differently about Black business growth, wealth creation, and economic impact.

His message was clear: if we want different outcomes, we must be intentional about measuring progress, supporting Black-owned businesses, and investing in our future.

Today, we honor Juneteenth, a day that marks freedom delayed, resilience unwavering, and hope that could not be extinguished.

As we celebrate the emancipation of the last enslaved African Americans in Texas on June 19, 1865, we also recognize the generations who have fought for justice, equality, opportunity, and economic empowerment.

The Corpus Christi Black Chamber of Commerce remains committed to advancing Black-owned businesses, fostering entrepreneurship, and creating pathways for prosperity throughout the Coastal Bend. Our work is rooted in the understanding that economic freedom is an essential part of true freedom.

Today, we celebrate our ancestors, our innovators, our entrepreneurs, our leaders, and our community. We celebrate Black excellence, Black joy, and the enduring spirit that continues to inspire future generations.
