7/8 Update:

6:20AM Hurricane Beryl Update:

Beryl so far has shown no signs of weakening, and the core of the strongest winds are now moving into the south side of Houston. Conditions will continue to deteriorate over Houston and Harris County. Power outages have increased to over 500,000 customers, and that will continue to climb.

Gulf waters are strengthening as predicted. I’d anticipate this to be between a Category 1 or Category 2 by the time it makes landfall Monday morning. Corpus Christi, North Padre, Port A and Rockport need to take extra caution. Will update as we see more movement. I’m getting Harvey vibes, hopefully on a smaller scale this go around.

Tropical Storm Beryl is starting to bubble over the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico with max sustained winds of 60 mph. Latest NHC forecast track is shown here with a 90 mph hurricane at landfall, likely between Corpus Christi and Matagorda, TX.

While this could shift within the next day or two, latest forecast is showing moving more north and east versus previous models. Keep checking back for updates.

4 AM UPDATE: Beryl is still a Tropical Storm with 60 mph winds early Saturday morning. It is currently moving WNW, but is expected to turn more northward.

This is the first Forecast Cone since Thursday that hasn't moved much. Meaning the latest run of data has stayed fairly consistent and there wasn't too much of an adjustment to the right this update.

JULY 5, 4P - Beryl is a 65 mph tropical storm with 75 mph winds, about to move back into the Gulf of Mexico, where re-strengthening will take place between now and a n eventual landfall on the Texas Gulf Coast, Monday.

Updated forecast cone shows another shift to the east/north and is centered over Corpus Christi with a 90mph category one hurricane at the time of landfall.

The trend on the forecast cone has been shifting east/north for the last several days now.

UPDATE: Hurricane Beryl made landfall near Cozumel last night with maximum sustained winds around 100 mph. The small inner core and interaction with the Yucatan land mass helped weaken the system a little on final approach.

NOW TO TEXAS: Notice how the official NHC cone widens as Hurricane Beryl approaches the Texas coast! This represents the uncertainty in the track as the TC slows down and curls northward along the coast or into central Texas with MAJOR flood and tornado potential. Hurricane intensity models are trending toward a stronger storm.

BERYL | The new 5 am track changes little in terms of the forecast. The storm will move across the Yucatan tomorrow and then into the Gulf this weekend. Impacts to Texas still likely Sunday into Monday.
