We hope everyone is enjoying the slightly cooler weather and staying safe with the high winds! The bay side of our park is regrowing stronger and healthier after our January prescribed burn, just in time for approach of spring. Renewal is always a core part of life on the island, as conditions change frequently.

The next few months will be a bit quiet in regard to ranger programs, as our programs will be on a short hiatus. We encourage our park visitors to participate in our Junior Ranger program and ask about our Explorer Packs program! Our park will always be a special place to have fun in the sand, go fishing with friends and family, stargaze at the water's edge, and find your best moments outdoors.

Our Stargazing by the Shore program is still a-go for tonight! 8:00PM in our Day Use Beach parking lot, straight ahead on our park road from the entrance. Please be sure to bring a light jacket and come prepared for potential high winds of 20-25mph. We will be prepared to cancel the program if conditions worsen.

If you are planning on beach camping tonight, come prepared for very high winds along with rough tides. Nueces County is also currently under a Burn Ban through March 28th, so please advise anyone you see starting an open fire of the hazardous dry conditions paired with high winds.

Throughout the year, our park is home to incredible birds of prey! From the endangered Aplomado Falcon to the hovering Northern Harrier, the angling Osprey to the "cleanup crew" Crested Caracara; we have plenty of cool birds to see.

Our new Build a Bird of Prey Kite program allows the opportunity for all ages to enjoy creating and flying your very own kite, as well as learning what to look for if you are observing various birds of prey in flight. Want to express yourself through a dragonfly kite? Absolutely! Let your imagination soar as a kite.

If you would like to attend one of our upcoming Build a Bird of Prey Kite programs, stop by the picnic tables at our Bathhouse next to the campground this upcoming Sunday, February 15th and Friday, February 20th, starting at 10:00AM. We will be making kites until 11:30AM. Programs are weather dependent. Hope to see you there!

Join us for our upcoming Saturday evening stargazing by the shore! Spend an hour stargazing with a ranger and astronomy volunteers and discover the importance of preserving the darkness of our night skies! February skies can be unpredictable, but tomorrow night looks great for stargazing.

Our upcoming astronomy programs will be on Saturday, February 7th, 14th, and 21st, 8:00PM - 9:00PM at the Day Use Beach parking lot, straight ahead on our park road from the entrance.
