Solomon Coles High School

Solomon Coles High School and Education Center is CCISD's Alternative High School. We're proud of our legacy! He came to Texas in 1877.

Our school is named for a former slave, Solomon Melvin Coles. A sheriff during the Civil War broke the law by teaching Coles to read. Coles worked his way through college and eventually received his doctorate. He began preaching in Corpus Christi and teaching black students in 1878. Coles gave up the ministry to teach and serve as principal at the school known as the Public Free School for Colored

. After he left Corpus Christi, the school building was converted to a broom factory. In 1925 the high school was built and named for Coles. In 1973 it became Solomon M. Coles Elementary School and in 2006 became Solomon M. Coles High School and Education Center.

Last week we celebrated our AMAZING Police Officer Cain!
Officer Cain has an incredible personality that allows him to communicate and Connect with the students on our Campus! While maintaining his integrity and character! The students and Faculty are grateful for everything he does on our Campus to keep us Safe!

On Friday our Group celebrated him with a Nosh! Our theme was “It’s Not a Party until the Cop Shows up!
Thank you Officer Cain for each and every thing you do everyday!

📢 FAFSA Assistance for Parents & Guardians
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We would like to inform you that Del Mar College representatives will be on campus on Monday, April 20th, from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM to provide assistance with completing the parent/guardian portion of the FAFSA.
Parents and guardians are welcome to:
Come to campus during the times listed above for in‑person assistance, or
Call the school during this time to receive support over the phone.
If you are unable to attend in person on April 20th, you may also call to schedule an appointment so that assistance can be provided at a more convenient time.
Please remember that completion of the FAFSA is a graduation requirement for all students, so your participation is very important.
If you have questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please contact the school.
