In the Coastal Bend, June isn't just the beginning of summer vacation...it's the kickoff of hurricane season. Special Olympics was happy to join the Westside Business Association this morning to meet with local businesses and learn more about how the city prepares to keep us all safe in the event of a disaster. Thank you to Jace Johnson and the City of Corpus Christi for sharing strategies to help us all be prepared for an emergency!

🚨 SAVE THE DATE! 🚨

Mark your calendars for July 23 and come out to support the annual Tip A Cop fundraiser at Texas Roadhouse benefiting Special Olympics Texas! ❤️💙

For one special evening, local law enforcement officers will trade in their badges for aprons and help serve guests alongside the amazing Texas Roadhouse staff and our outstanding local athletes — all to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics Texas.

Every tip, donation, and meal helps provide year-round sports training, competitions, and opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities across Texas.

And if that’s not enough excitement… our Corpus Christi location will once again host the annual Rib Eating Contest! 🍖🏆 Representatives from local law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and media outlets will battle it out for the coveted trophy and ultimate bragging rights. You won’t want to miss the fun!

Bring your family, invite your friends, enjoy a great meal, and help us make a difference for these incredible athletes!

The Special Olympics oath is about so much more than sports. It represents the courage, determination, joy, confidence, and perseverance that our athletes show every single day — both on and off the field of play.

Through Special Olympics, athletes discover strengths they may not have known they had, build lifelong friendships, gain confidence, and learn that success comes in many forms.

Our athletes inspire us daily with their heart, resilience, and willingness to keep trying. These are the qualities that make Special Olympics so much more than competition — it’s a community where athletes are empowered to grow, succeed, and shine!

Summer is upon us, and while many people are gearing up for vacations, pool days, and a little relaxation, your Special Olympics Texas staff is hard at work preparing for another amazing season of events and competitions!

Last week, staff members from across South Texas gathered in San Antonio to collaborate, share ideas and strategies, problem solve, and yes — even play a little pickleball!

Behind every competition, event, and athlete experience is a dedicated team working to make sure our athletes and families receive the very best. From planning and organizing to brainstorming new opportunities, our staff is committed to creating meaningful experiences for the athletes we serve — because they deserve nothing less.

We are proud to work alongside such passionate people who believe in the mission of Special Olympics and the incredible athletes and families who make it all worthwhile.

Memorial Day weekend is often known as the unofficial start of summer — pools are opening, families are heading outside, and here in the Coastal Bend, the beaches are about to get busy too!

We may not have a shortage of water around here, but that just means we have plenty of opportunities to practice and perfect our swimming skills for future Special Olympics competitions.

Whether you’re spending the weekend at the pool, on the beach, or out on the water, we hope everyone has a fun and safe Memorial Day weekend. And if you have a little extra time, maybe practice that backstroke so you’ll be primed and ready for next season’s swim meet!

As we enjoy the holiday weekend, we also remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.
