Fleet Readiness Center Southwest Detachment North Island Hosts FELIX Course
Fleet Readiness Center Southwest Detachment North Island had the privilege of hosting the Flag and Executive Leadership GRGB Implementation Course (FELIX), led by Mr. James Moser, SES for VCNO. This impactful course is designed to teach Navy leaders how to apply proven leadership and problem-solving practices to achieve exceptional performance.
The course, held in San Diego, included 28 participants and began with a presentation at Building 463. The presentation outlined the different levels of maintenance in Naval Aviation, background at FRCSW, and an overview of the 13 buildings that FRCSW Detachment North Island operates from. The session also highlighted the implementation of the electronic routing (eRoute) system, which improves visibility and reduces correspondence time.
Participants then toured the 400 and 800 Divisions to observe airspeed lessons learned in action. In the 400 Division’s engine shop, attendees saw improvements including a redesign of the floor layout, centralized crane activities, color-coded plaques, and newly designed storage systems. These efforts have streamlined operations and contributed to the production of 108 T-700 motors last fiscal year.
In the Paraloft, attendees observed process improvements that reduced SRU-42 bottle production times from more than 22 hours to 7.5 hours. Enhancements included consolidated workstations, 3D-printed boards for consumables, and a vending machine system for First-in First-out inventory management, reducing errors and increasing efficiency.
Fleet Readiness Center Southwest is dedicated to improving processes that enhance operational readiness and ensure the Navy remains mission-ready.
