As part of our Read Across America celebration, teachers and staff members turned our hallways into a giant library, and created a School-wide Book Walk! Staff members picked a book and created a dedicated bulletin board as a "sneak peek" for students to preview the book, including the title, key characters, and their favorite quote! A perfect way to celebrate a love of reading while turning our school into a literary wonderland.

On February 26, Cornwall Elementary School celebrated its 100th day of the 2025-26 school year! Some classes celebrated by making necklaces with 100 beads, building structures with 100 blocks, or dressing up like they were 100 years old! We also had students who wore creative handmade t-shirts that listed 100 reasons why they are proud to be a Cornwall DRAGON! Fun was had by all and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store for us.

Mrs. Gleason’s third graders took a trip to Black Rock for their winter observation. They started by doing "Project Feeder" watch and participated in a bird count that will go onto a national registry. Then they had an ice safety lesson followed up by their winter observation where they took temperatures of the air and the water and the soil, as well as observed wildlife and vegetation. They ended the day acting like penguins - sliding down the hill, of course! A wonderful day in the forest! The greatest classroom in all the land!

Yesterday was the Winter Concert here at CES! Our fourth grade students sounded wonderful as they performed songs for the younger grades and our staff. After only eight weeks of practice with their instruments, they had an amazing Orchestral, Band, and Choral performance. Congratulations to the fourth grade class for their amazing performances, and a big thank you to Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Suby, and Ms. Henry for their hard work!

Last week the CES Library transformed into “Starbooks Cafe”, where students ‘tasted’ an array of books from every genre, accompanied by hot chocolate and a candy cane (allergies permitting). Students could also unwrap a mystery book and take home a story they may not have tried otherwise. Students waited with anticipation for their turn at Library class this week. A big thank you to Ms. Crisci and Mrs. Hansen for putting together such a lovely learning experience!

Last week, students from each class received Principal’s Awards for exhibiting the character trait Responsibility during the month of November. To celebrate their achievement, and to give personal examples of what Responsibility and Perseverance mean to them, were Cadets and West Point Football stars 2nd Lt and Quarterback Bryson Daily and 2nd Lt and Safety Max DiDomenico. They gave exemplary personal testimonies, from the importance of doing chores to overcoming difficult swimming tests through patience and endurance. A big thank you to our teachers, students, and special guests for making this day possible!

Last week our fourth grade students participated in Balloons Over Broadway, a festive project designed to advance their creative, technological, and teamwork skills. Hear the inspiration for the activity from our very own Mrs. Harter:

“Each year millions of people tune in to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, and this year the fourth graders at Lee Road had a Thanksgiving Parade of their own! Each class read the book Balloons Over Broadway and then worked in groups to create their very own balloons. The children were also responsible for creating a city building and writing a descriptive paragraph about their balloon creations. Then, Mrs. Jados set up the hallway with New York City streets, and the students programmed Dash robots to travel their balloons down Broadway! The students showed great creativity and teamwork.”

A big thank you to our excellent fourth grade teachers and Mrs. Jados for this amazing experience!
