The Community Action Development Corporation Community Market (mobile grocery store) will be operating in Southwest Oklahoma soon and the GREAT NEWS for Wash*ta County is four communities have been selected to be on the route for the first truck!! The market will be coming to Burns Flat, Canute, Corn, and Sentinel. Stay tuned for route schedules!

Each time you record a document in our office $10 remains with our office. That $10 is to be used solely for the purpose of preserving records. Right now those funds are being used to preserve the DD214 (military discharge) records. We hold 7 full volumes of these records which are being preserved, placed into protective covering, and bound into a disaster recovery binder. Below is the inside page dedication for each binder. I am really excited to see the finished product.

These records represent the people of Wash*ta County who sacrificed their time and family so that we may live as we do today. Effective November 1, 2026, grandchildren, in addition to the veteran, spouse, child or legal representative, will now be able to access these important military records. It is our honor to file these records at no cost. If you or your family member does not have your DD214 on record, it may be filed at any time in our office.

🚨 Public Service Announcement 🚨

Earlier today the Burns Flat EMS announced the resignation of the medics and the closure of the ambulance service effective June 1, 2026. We first would like to thank the EMS volunteers for their service to the community. We know this was not an easy decision by the medics or the Town of Burns Flat leaders.

In Oklahoma, the Board of County Commissioners is responsible for facilitating emergency medical services through cities/towns, hospital authority, or private organizations. We would like to thank the Town of Burns Flat for providing this service throughout the years.

As of right now, the Town of Burns Flat has entered into a mutual aid agreement with Sinor Ambulance to provide service from their Clinton and Hobart locations. The Board of County Commissioners will continue to hold discussions with the Town of Burns Flat leaders to determine a permanent solution. Please rest assured the citizens of Wash*ta County will not be left without service.

Marita dedicated 33 years of service to the Wash*ta County Clerk’s Office including serving as the County Clerk from January 2001 until her retirement in June 2010. Please keep her family and friends in your prayers in the days ahead.

The Courthouse will open at 8 am tomorrow, January 27th. Thank you to our county road crews, our Emergency Manager, and our Building Custodian for shoveling all of the sidewalks around the Courthouse. We appreciate you all!
