The Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation (CCEDC) was established
in August of 1990 by the voters of Copperas Cove, who approved funding the Type A
Economic Development Corporation. The Copperas Cove EDC prepares an annual
budget that is approved by the City Council, which also appoints each board member. Board members serve three-year terms and may be reappointed if the City Council
desi

res. The Mission of the CCEDC is to establish and maintain a comprehensive economic
development program for Copperas Cove through new industry recruitment, business
expansion and retention activity and business development. We work with businesses that are interested in locating in
or expanding to Copperas Cove. New businesses provide an increased tax base and job opportunities that benefit the entire community. Some of the projects we’ve helped
locate include Walgreen’s, Cinergy Cinemas and Starbucks and the 5 Hills Shopping Center. We also funded and build a Business and Technology Park called the Narrows. We placed all of the necessary infrastructure (roads, curbs, electric, water, etc) in the park to allow business to come in and build. Just as important, we work with existing Copperas Cove business owners, helping with training and education. We help prepared business plans and educate on topics relevant to business owners. Join us for a monthly board meeting. New date: 4th Wednesday of each month at noon. Open to the public!

Fred Welch, Executive Director, and Sean Stevens, Assistant Executive Director, were pleased to attend the Forging Central Texas Industry & Growth Summit in Killeen last week.

Sessions addressing the future of Foreign Direct Investment in Texas and defense industry partnerships provided valuable insight into the region's continued economic growth and opportunity.

It was also a pleasure connecting with Chip Howell, Keith Sledd, and Janie Havel during the event.

Central Texas College’s Spring 2026 commencement celebrated nearly 1,000 graduates, including dozens of students from Copperas Cove High School earning associate degrees and workforce certifications in high-demand fields.

In addition to traditional degree pathways, Central Texas College also recently celebrated graduates of the Fort Hood IT Academy, a workforce-focused program preparing transitioning soldiers for civilian careers in cybersecurity, networking, and information technology.

These programs demonstrate the important role higher education and military partnerships play in workforce development and regional economic competitiveness. Graduates enter the workforce with technical expertise, leadership experience, adaptability, and career-ready skills that benefit employers across multiple industries.

Strong workforce pipelines remain a critical component of economic development and business attraction efforts.

As the upcoming 3rd Annual Regional Hiring Event approaches, we look forward to continuing the work of connecting skilled talent with employment opportunities throughout Central Texas.
