CASA of Coos and Curry Counties

CASA of Coos and Curry Counties Help end the cycle of child abuse and neglect in Coos and Curry Counties by supporting CASA. CASAs are volunteers who advocate for children in foster care.

If you are interested in being a CASA volnteer please contact us! CASA helps children in Coos and Curry Counties by recruiting and training volunteer advocates to advocate for abused and neglected children. Advocates make sure children don't get lost in the overburdened legal and social service system of child welfare or languish in foster care. Advocates stay with each case until it is closed, and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home.

Attending the Memorial Day event at Marshfield High School was an emotional reminder of the ultimate sacrifice many of our community members gave in standing up to world-wide atrocities and oppression. For each of those who gave all, there remains family, friends, and a community who mourn their loss. It is a deep impact, humbling, and hope inspiring in their sacrifices. Especially knowing that they stepped up fully knowing that this could be their last.

Many continue to step up and risk their lives to protect others from the bullies of the world and those who commit atrocities for their own rewards. Many are haunted by their experiences and losses endured by being part of our heroes who stepped into war to try to make our world a better place. They mourn as deep and many times much deeper for those heroes we have lost.

We don't want to say, "Happy Memorial Day," as it shouldn't be happy, it should be reverent and solemn gratitude for those who have given their lives to protect others.

Today and every day we are deeply humbled and grateful for the sacrifices other have made for our world. Memorial Day is a reminder to retain our gratitude and do better as a society and world to make sure all commitments that potentially sacrifice lives are for the betterment for humankind.

The Annual South Coast Regional Child Abuse Summit 2026. Jasmine and Robyn hanging out at the CASA table. Stitch and Stand Up running the BACA table, Biscuit just being the cute pup she is and making friends with our child protection partners. We really love being around our hard working teams to see the importance of all we do for children in our communities.

Thank you Commissioner Trost and Bonnie Ell for this episode. We've had the pleasure of working with Bonnie for some years now. She is definitely a community champion and has helped our South Coast Foster Care Alliance grow. There is a desperate need for resource homes in Coos and Curry as well as Court Appointed Special Advocates. We work together to face challenges, support our teams, and make a difference for children and families navigating the foster care system.

I got to participate in one of these last year, it was a great event building bicycle safety awareness. Our cities need to take bike safety more seriously and put some $$ into bicycle infrastructure. Not only is bicycling good exercise, it's good for your mental health, has literally no impact on road wear, and helps reduce natural resource usage. It also gets us out in the fresh air with a different view of our cities. Our kids should be able to safely bike to school, it's up to us adults to improve our systems so that can happen.
