Attending the Memorial Day event at Marshfield High School was an emotional reminder of the ultimate sacrifice many of our community members gave in standing up to world-wide atrocities and oppression. For each of those who gave all, there remains family, friends, and a community who mourn their loss. It is a deep impact, humbling, and hope inspiring in their sacrifices. Especially knowing that they stepped up fully knowing that this could be their last.
Many continue to step up and risk their lives to protect others from the bullies of the world and those who commit atrocities for their own rewards. Many are haunted by their experiences and losses endured by being part of our heroes who stepped into war to try to make our world a better place. They mourn as deep and many times much deeper for those heroes we have lost.
We don't want to say, "Happy Memorial Day," as it shouldn't be happy, it should be reverent and solemn gratitude for those who have given their lives to protect others.
Today and every day we are deeply humbled and grateful for the sacrifices other have made for our world. Memorial Day is a reminder to retain our gratitude and do better as a society and world to make sure all commitments that potentially sacrifice lives are for the betterment for humankind.
