This afternoon, our Bravo Duty Crew spent some time visiting former CPFD Cadet Mikaedam at his graduation party.

As a graduate of Coopersville High School, he has plans to join the Army.

Mikaedam was was hired on as part of our Cadet program in 2024. While he is no longer on our department, we’re proud of the work he has done and encourage him in his future endeavors!

Our crews responded early this morning to assist the Wright-Tallmadge Firefighters Association with an engine company assignment.

While this is a devastating event for any family, it also serves as an important reminder of how something as simple as sleeping with your bedroom door closed can help provide a more tenable environment during a fire. A closed door can help slow the spread of heat, smoke, and toxic gases, potentially providing valuable extra time to escape or be rescued.

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

As we gather with family and friends, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of this day and honor those who gave everything for our freedom.

From all of us at the Coopersville/Polkton Fire Department β€” we remember, we honor, and we thank you. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸš’

πŸ‹οΈβ€β™‚οΈπŸ‘©β€πŸš’ Physical Agility πŸš’πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

This week, department personnel went through a training course designed to test their endurance and stamina while being put through β€˜obstacles’ that mimic scenarios we typically encounter on the fire scene.

We do this every year, as responders work to improve upon their previous year results and ensure their skills remain sharp.

Not only do participants try to complete the course, but we also track their vitals and consumption of air on their SCBA - or our air packs.

The course contained:
Removing & raising a ladder πŸͺœ
Advancing a 200 foot charged hose line πŸ’¦
Equipment carry up & down stairs 🧯
Ceiling pulls πŸͺ
Tire hits πŸ”¨
Tunnel crawl 😀
Patient extrication/drag ⛑️

There is a bit of friendly competition among the team for best time, but safety comes first and foremost.

It was a great training that saw many improvements and even a few personal bests. The team also did a great job encouraging each other through each round.

Thank you to our dedicated staff who are continually pushing themselves to be better!
