Welcome Back, Hawkeyes!

The halls and classrooms of Cooperstown Elementary School and Cooperstown Junior/Senior High School have been filled with smiles, excitement and plenty of first-day energy today as we welcome our students back for the 2026-27 school year!

From stepping off the bus in this morning's dense fog to finding their way through the halls and learning how to open those lockers, our students were ready to get the new school year underway. And once recess rolled around, the weather turned out to be spectacular for our elementary students to enjoy swinging on the swings, playing on the playground and even a spirited game of kickball!

Most importantly, it's wonderful to see so many smiling faces – both students and teachers – as our school community comes back together.

We hope everyone is having a fantastic first day, and we’re looking forward to all the learning, growth, friendships and memories that await us this year!

Welcome back, Cooperstown! Let’s make it a great year!

Sheriff's Message: School is back in session this week!

As students return to school this week, we remind everyone to slow down, stay alert, and drive with caution as we begin the new school year.

🚌 Know the school bus laws:
🟡 YELLOW LIGHTS FLASHING: The bus is preparing to stop. SLOW DOWN — DO NOT ACCELERATE TO GET PAST THE BUS.
🔴 RED LIGHTS FLASHING: Students are getting on or off the bus. YOU MUST STOP.
When a school bus is stopped with its red lights flashing, traffic approaching from either direction must stop before reaching the bus, including on:

Two-lane roads
Multi-lane highways
Divided highways, where required by law

⚠️ School Zone Speed Limits:School zone speed limits are in effect from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM on school days, unless otherwise posted.

Please remember: A few extra seconds of caution could save a child’s life.
Let’s work together to make this school year a safe one for our students, school bus drivers, teachers, and everyone traveling our roads.

Slow down. Stay alert. Stop for school buses. 🛑

🚌 School Bus Safety: Let’s Start the Year Safely!

The first day of school is right around the corner! As we prepare to welcome students back on Tuesday, Sept. 8, we’re asking our Cooperstown community to help keep our students safe around school buses.

🚨 When a school bus has its red lights flashing, STOP. Students may be getting on or off the bus, and drivers must remain stopped until the flashing red lights are turned off.

Please remember to:
• Stop for school buses with flashing red lights – in both directions when required by law.
• Give buses plenty of space and never pass a stopped school bus.
• Watch carefully for students near bus stops, sidewalks and roadways.
• Slow down and stay alert as students return to their daily routines.

A few extra seconds of caution can make all the difference. Let’s work together to make sure every Hawkeye gets to and from school safely.

📚 See you Tuesday, Sept. 8!

Welcome Back, Teachers and 10-Month Staff!

Today, we were thrilled to welcome back all of our teachers and 10-month staff after their well-deserved summer break, kicking off the new academic year with our Superintendent’s Conference Day!

Board of Education Vice President Mary Beth Murdock and Interim Superintendent Ann Meccariello started the day by welcoming everyone back as they gathered in the NJ Sterling Auditorium — one of the rare occasions when all of our district employees are together in the same room.

All staff were encouraged to share their favorite photos from over the summer, bringing smiles to many faces as they exchanged stories and memories with their colleagues.

Bob Avery, our new Assistant Superintendent for Business and Operations, also spoke to staff about recent changes in the Business Office and discussed the many positive benefits those changes will provide for our employees.

With just one week remaining until our students return to school next Tuesday, Sept. 8, our teachers are hard at work preparing for an amazing year ahead!

Here’s to a great 2026-27 school year, Cooperstown!
