Safe Kids of Otsego County Our focus is on promoting changes in attitudes, behaviors, laws and the environment to prevent accid And almost all of these injuries are preventable.

Safe Kids Worldwide is the first and only international nonprofit organization dedicated solely to preventing accidental childhood injury. Accidents kill one million children, each year around the world and permanently disable many more. In fact, more children ages 1 to 14 years die from accidents such as motor vehicle crashes, fires, drowning, poisoning and falls than any other cause.

Spring forward into safety and check your smoke detectors.

When the clocks , it's a great time to check your smoke alarms. While you’re going room-to-room making sure that the time is right, check your smoke alarms to make sure that their batteries work. Here are some more tips:

Older kids can be in a hurry to grow up. Pre-teens, who are looking forward to learning to drive in a few years, may want to sit up front. It's safest to keep them in the back seat until they are 13.

Talk to them about riding with others and the importance of buckling up in anyone's care, even when you're not there to remind them.

Safety Alert! Water beads are small, super absorbent polymer crystals. They're colorful, squishy and look like fun to play with, but they pose a real safety risk. According to Kids in Danger, these balls can grow up to 1500 times their size when placed in a liquid. If ingested, inhaled or inserted into ear canals, water beads absorb bodily fluids and can lead to potentially life-threatening injuries.

Walmart, Amazon and Target have banned the sale of water beads marketed to children and other online retailers, like Etsy, have prohibited the sale of water beads entirely.
