Thursday, September 24, 7:00 pm
Our First talk will be Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 7 pm. The topic, “A World of Shipping, Ships and Shipbuilding”, will be presented by Cooper Landing resident Al Nierenberg, owner and president of Ship Construction Strategies. Al started as a marine engineer and was an executive at two US shipyards before starting his own company doing shipbuilding and offshore projects worldwide. His talk will cover a very broad range marine history, including the Alaska Packet Fleet of the late 1890s and Alaska’s role in oil/gas shipping.

Annual Support Needed for the Cooper Landing Community Library

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Every week, someone checks their email, picks up a new book, or brings their kids in for story time, all at a library that survives entirely on grants and community support. In July alone, 291 people visited our library!

What: We need to raise $7,000 to match this year’s Public Library Assistance grant from the Alaska State Library.

Why: This match is required to receive the grant. Together, grants and your donations keep the library running on just $15,000 a year and over 1,000 volunteer hours; no paid staff, no borough funding.

How: Any donation helps us meet the match and keep this grant. Here’s what it buys:

$20 – a new children’s book
$30 – a new adult book
$80 – a month of electricity
$250 – a month of heating fuel
$450 – a year of access to Libby and the Alaska Digital Library
$2,220 – a year of building insurance

The July Book Club will meet in person at Cooper Landing Community Library on Tuesday, July 21 at 7:00 pm. This month's book is My Friends by Fredrik Backman (author of A Man Called Ove). Backman’s 2025 novel is about the powerful and lasting bond of friendship, told with emotional depth, wit, and beautiful prose. Participants may bring a snack to share.

Join the Cooper Landing Community Library and Kenai Public Health (Alaska Department of Health) at 1:30pm on July 15 for the Summer Reading Program to read "Howling with Huskies: And Other Ways to Feel Good."

A leading expert on the brain-body and stress, Alaskan author Linda Chamberlain combines her love of the Arctic, experiences as a dog musher, and the latest science in this heart-warming story to help children cope and be their best selves.

The fun and learning will continue at home with each child receiving their own copy of "Wild About Wellness with Hope the Husky," a beautiful activity book with stickers, crayons and colored pencils.

Summer Reading Program for Children
June 10 - August 5
Wednesdays, 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM

The Cooper Landing Community Library is hosting a weekly summer reading program for children, every Wednesday throughout the summer. Enjoy storytime, fun activities, and exciting reading incentives! Help make reading a joyful part of your child’s summer.

Children under the age of seven must be accompanied by an adult (either in the building or on the Community Club property). If your child doesn’t have a library card yet, you can help them sign up for one at www.cooperlandinglibrary.com
