Twenty-five years later, we remember.

Members of the City Commission and City staff joined students and faculty at Cooper City High School this morning for a solemn ceremony commemorating the anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Keynote speaker and Assistant Principal Fabian Calero reflected on how that day changed the course of his life. Having been a teacher for only one year when the attacks occurred, he later answered the call to serve in our nation’s armed forces. His message honored the lives lost while recalling the extraordinary unity, compassion and resolve Americans demonstrated in the days, weeks and months that followed.

As a new generation grows up without firsthand memories of September 11, it is our responsibility to share its history, honor the courage and sacrifice it inspired, and preserve the lessons that emerged from one of our nation’s darkest days.

May we always remember those we lost, those who served and the ideals that unite us.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸

🥎 Continued Investment in Bill Lips Sports Complex

Paver installation is now complete around the exterior of Bill Lips Sports Complex, providing additional parking for athletes, families and visitors along the north and east sides of the complex.

This project is part of a broader effort over the past two years to strengthen Bill Lips as a softball-first facility. Recent improvements include converting Field 4 into a regulation softball field, laser grading the fields, replacing fencing, improving dugouts and replacing essential field components, all alongside the daily maintenance required to keep the complex ready for play. These investments strive to help girls remain in Cooper City throughout their youth softball careers and help bring new experiences to the complex, such as clinics with NCAA Division I softball programs.

And, there is more to come. Approximately $1 million in new LED athletic-field lighting is planned, bathroom renovations are approaching and the next phase of fencing improvements is anticipated, subject to approval through the annual budget process.

Together, these investments are improving the experience for players and families while building a stronger future for softball in "Someplace Special."

📢 Golf Course Application Update

Our community has expressed interest and concern regarding a potential development application involving the Cooper Colony Golf Course property. Thus, we will provide updates as they become available.

The applicant has postponed the Development Review Committee's (DRC) review of a Land Use Plan Amendment (LUPA) application until the October 28, 2026 DRC meeting.

The application must first work its way through the City’s DRC process, which is handled at the staff level. No hearings have been scheduled for the Planning & Zoning Board or the City Commission.

Please visit www.CooperCity.gov/GolfCourseApplication for a full timeline, documents, and more information regarding the application.
