Sean Novack: Ward 3 Coon Rapids City Councilmember

Sean Novack: Ward 3 Coon Rapids City Councilmember Focused on public safety, fiscal responsibility, and practical solutions that serve the whole community. Elected in 2022 after winning every Ward 3 precinct.

I share public events and Council updates on a regular basis. I am honored and proud to represent the citizens of the city I grew up in. Thank you to Ward 3 for your trust. If I look familiar, you might have seen me here in Coon Rapids volunteering for Snowflake Days, the Coon Rapids Safety Commission, Scouting Troops 514 and 518, the Coon Rapids Lions Club, the Miss Minnesota/Coon Rapids Scholars

hip Pageant or several other organizations. Professionally, I have been a Firearms Instructor for 20 years and have owned Templar Firearms Training here in Coon Rapids since 2017. I am an Associate Advisor with Mutual of Omaha and have worked in the financial/insurance industry for 12 years. I believe in keeping things local and opened my business in the same Ward I am living in, so I have a vested interest in making sure that the ordinances that get passed are fair and beneficial to both residents and businesses here. I am also the Treasurer of the Anoka Area Chamber of Commerce, and sit on the Better Business Bureau Accredited Business Advisory Committee for Minnesota and North Dakota. Socially, I am pro-law enforcement, and have police officers in my family going back generations, including my father. We can't let the lawlessness in Hennipen County cross the bridge into Coon Rapids in the name of political correctness.

These are some of the things that are close to my heart , but I want to hear from you! Feel free to contact me with your concerns!

Housing affordability matters.

A recent study estimates that government regulations at the federal, state, and local levels account for more than one-quarter of the cost of a newly built home.

Reasonable regulations are important. We need building codes that protect public safety, infrastructure standards that ensure quality development, and environmental protections that are based on sound science and common sense.

At the same time, policymakers should continually review regulations to ensure they are actually serving the public interest and not simply adding unnecessary costs, delays, and barriers to homeownership.

As a City Councilmember, I believe government should focus on protecting public safety and maintaining core services while avoiding unnecessary burdens that make it harder for families to afford a home.

Affordable housing starts with increasing supply, reducing unnecessary obstacles to construction, and making sure regulations are accomplishing their intended purpose.

What are your thoughts?

Government regulations add more than $130,000 to the cost of a newly built single-family home in the United States, according to a new study.

Today I attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new SaveStation AED at the Sand Creek Athletic Complex.

This project was made possible through a partnership between the North Star Lions Club, Play for Patrick, the C**n Rapids Fire Department Community Fund, and the City of C**n Rapids.

An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can mean the difference between life and death when someone suffers sudden cardiac arrest. By making this equipment publicly accessible at one of our community's busiest athletic facilities, we are improving safety for athletes, families, and visitors.

Thank you to the many volunteers, donors, community leaders, and public safety professionals who helped make this project a reality. Partnerships like these demonstrate what can be accomplished when organizations work together for the benefit of our community.

We hope it is never needed, but if that day comes, this AED could help save a life.

Community strength... for generations.

Join us for Custard & Conversation!

One of the best parts of serving on the City Council is hearing directly from residents. Whether you have questions, concerns, ideas, or simply want to talk about the future of C**n Rapids, I hope you'll stop by.

There is no formal agenda and no speeches—just an opportunity to visit with your elected officials, enjoy some frozen custard, and share your thoughts about our community.

I look forward to seeing you on June 27 at Culver's with Pat Carlson for Mayor and Brian Armstrong City Council Member Ward 5.

I appreciate the quick response by the C**n Rapids Police Department, the Anoka County SWAT Team, and our emergency responders in bringing this situation to a safe conclusion.

Incidents involving violence are always concerning to residents, and I know many people will be relieved to learn that the suspect is in custody and that law enforcement has indicated there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Thank you to the officers, investigators, and first responders whose professionalism helped resolve this situation safely. My thoughts are with the victim, and I wish him a full and speedy recovery.

As always, I encourage residents to remain aware of their surroundings and to report suspicious activity when appropriate.

C**n Rapids Stabbing Investigation
Suspect in custody; No threat to public

[C**N RAPIDS, MN, June 9, 2026] C**n Rapids Police Department arrested a suspect following an overnight stabbing. At approximately 4:10 a.m. on June 9, C**n Rapids Police Officers were dispatched to a residence in C**n Rapids. An adult male reported he was in route to the address and had been stabbed. Officers arrived to find the man had a non-life-threatening cut to the arm; he was transported to a local hospital.

C**n Rapids Police Department learned the incident took place at a separate residence in the 11400 block of Eidelweiss Street Northwest. Officers responded to that address and attempted to take a male suspect into custody for the incident. The male refused to exit the residence. The Anoka County SWAT Team responded to assist and was able to take the male suspect into custody Tuesday afternoon.

The suspect is known to the victim and there is no threat to the public. C**n Rapids Police Department will continue to investigate the incident. The case will be presented to the Anoka County Attorney for consideration of criminal charges.

C**n Rapids has invested heavily in one of the best trail systems in the region, and keeping those trails safe for everyone should remain a priority.

This City video highlights the importance of trail etiquette and safety for walkers, runners, bicyclists, and other trail users. As electric-assisted bicycles and other motorized devices become increasingly common, communities across Minnesota are beginning to examine whether existing ordinances are keeping pace with changing technology.

In the coming weeks, I intend to ask that the Council review how neighboring cities are addressing e-bikes and similar devices. My goal is not to restrict responsible use, but to ensure our streets and trails remain safe, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone—from young families and seniors to cyclists and pedestrians.

I support innovation and personal freedom. I also believe that clear rules and reasonable expectations help prevent accidents before they happen.

Please take a moment to watch the City's video and let me know your thoughts. Do you believe our current regulations are sufficient, or should C**n Rapids consider additional safety measures?

Alder Park is one of C**n Rapids' more popular small parks, especially during the summer months.

I'm disappointed to learn of the suspected arson incident reported this morning. While the damage may appear limited, intentionally setting fires creates unnecessary risks for residents, park visitors, firefighters, police officers, and public property.

Thank you to the members of the C**n Rapids Fire Department and C**n Rapids Police Department for their quick response and investigation.

If you have any information that may assist investigators, please contact Detective Doug Barron at 763-767-6559. As always, if you witness suspicious activity, call 911.

Our parks belong to the entire community. Let's work together to keep them safe, welcoming, and well-maintained for everyone who enjoys them.

If you have any information on this suspicious fire believed to be arson, please contact Detective Doug Barron at 763-767-6559. Fires not only endanger the lives of citizens, but also firefighters and other first responders.

As always, if you see suspicious activity, report it by calling 911.

Happy Friday, C**n Rapids.

As we head into the weekend, I want to thank everyone who helps make our community what it is—our police officers, firefighters, public works crews, city staff, volunteers, business owners, and the countless residents who quietly contribute to making C**n Rapids a great place to live.

Local government isn't always exciting. Much of it happens behind the scenes: maintaining roads, planning for growth, balancing budgets, supporting public safety, and making decisions that affect daily life in ways most people never see.

But those responsibilities matter.

I remain committed to approaching every issue the same way: by focusing on facts, listening respectfully, and making decisions based on what is best for the residents of C**n Rapids.

Have a safe and enjoyable weekend.
