🚧 Street Closure | West Stevens Street

The City of Cookeville Department of Water Quality Control will have West Stevens Street closed to thru traffic between South Willow Avenue and Scott Avenue on Tuesday, September 15, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. while crews tie in a new water line.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution in the area and plan an alternate route during the closure.

🏥 Exciting things are ahead for health care in Cookeville!

Today, we celebrated the groundbreaking of Cookeville Regional Medical Center’s new inpatient rehabilitation hospital in partnership with Encompass Health.

This state-of-the-art facility will help patients recover from strokes, injuries, surgeries and more, offering advanced therapy services, 24/7 nursing care and 50 private patient rooms designed with comfort and healing in mind.

The new hospital will expand access to specialized inpatient rehabilitation care right here in our community and is expected to open in late 2027 or early 2028.

We’re excited to see this project take shape and the positive impact it will have on patients, families and our region!

The Cookeville Police Department has received several reports from citizens who received phone calls from someone claiming to be Officer Long with the Cookeville Police Department. The caller tells victims they have an active warrant and must send money to resolve it.

This is a scam.

The Cookeville Police Department will never call you and demand payment to take care of an active warrant. If you receive a call like this, do not provide personal or financial information and do not send money, purchase gift cards, or make any form of payment.

If you are ever unsure whether someone contacting you is actually a Cookeville Police Department employee, hang up and contact CPD directly at 931-526-2125 to verify the information.

Please share this information, particularly with family members or others who may be vulnerable to this type of scam.

Meet Cory Denby, Sanitation Truck Driver II with the City of Cookeville! 🚛

Cory has been serving the City of Cookeville for seven years and plays an important role in keeping our sanitation operations moving. As a floater, Cory does a little bit of everything, filling in on both side-load and front-load routes when needed, assisting customers, changing out cart lids and helping wherever he is needed.

A Cookeville native, Cory says his favorite part of the job is the problem-solving that comes with each day and finding ways to get the job done.

Outside of work, Cory enjoys spending time with his wife and two children and traveling with his family. When it’s time for a getaway, you’ll most likely find them headed to the beach! 🏖️

We honor the victims, their families, the first responders and all those whose lives were forever changed by the events of that day.

💜 September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month.

Mayor Chad Gilbert recently signed a proclamation recognizing Su***de Prevention Awareness Month in Cookeville and helping bring attention to the importance of mental health, prevention and access to support.

More than 1,200 lives are lost to su***de in Tennessee each year, with an estimated 25 su***de attempts for every su***de death. Su***de remains a leading cause of death across several age groups, including youth and young adults.

Help is available. The 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline provides free, confidential support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for anyone experiencing a mental health, su***de or substance use crisis.

This September, we encourage everyone to help raise awareness, know the resources available and remind those around us that support is always within reach.
