Congratulations to our Teachers of the Year for 2026-2027! We will spotlight each of our school-level Teachers of the Year leading up to the district celebration on September 29, 2026.
TYLER MOORE
D.L. Sims Elementary
Coach Tyler Moore is currently in his 10th year of teaching. For the past seven years, he has been teaching Physical Education, with four of those years at Sims Elementary School. He is also the head basketball coach for the Heritage High School Lady Patriots.
In his spare time, he enjoys playing sports, is committed to maintaining a consistent workout routine, and considers myself a very active person. Beyond physical activity, Coach Moore said, "I enjoy spending time with friends and family, listening to music, and adding to my shoe collection. I also like to think of myself as a professional food critic because I love trying new dishes and exploring different types of cuisine."
He added, "Coaching takes up a lot of my time, but it's about much more than practice and games. I use coaching as an opportunity to build meaningful relationships with students. It allows me to learn more about their goals, interests, and aspirations beyond the classroom. It is not uncommon to find me cheering on the sidelines at a game, applauding during a recital, or showing up to support students at other extracurricular events. I make it a point to ask my students about their schedules so I can support them beyond the walls of my gym.... Throughout my career, I have participated in mentoring groups for young men and have always looked for ways to give back... I am passionate about helping students build confidence and believe in themselves. My role is to encourage them to take their education seriously and help them recognize how their efforts today can shape their future."
Coach Moore comes the small town of Americus, Ga. and from a large, close-knit family whose values shaped the person he is today. "I am also a proud father, and being a dad is one of my greatest blessings and motivations in my life. I graduated from Valdosta State University and earned a membership into the greatest fraternity on the land, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.!"
One of his greatest honors was receiving the Golden Apple Award, a special recognition given by a graduating Senior with Honors to the teacher who had the greatest impact on their educational journey. He said, "While that recognition meant a great deal to me, the real reward comes from being able to brighten a young person's day and help them see that better days are always ahead."
