The Rotary Club of Conyers enjoyed a vocational tour today of the beautiful Georgia International Horse Park! The 1,400-acres facility is truly a marvel and celebrates 30 years this summer since it made its debut to the world in the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games!🐎

Special thanks to GIHP Director Rebecca Hill for sharing the latest stats and information about the world-class facility, as well as GIHP Foundation Board Members and Rotarian Marty Jones and Kathy Stowers for joining the club for lunch and the presentation. Afterwards, Rebecca and Event Manager Adora Bryant offered a short walking tour to interested members. Conyers and Rockdale County certainly have something to be proud of in this phenomenal facility.

Also, a plug for our friends at the Rotary Club of Rockdale County - be sure to buy your tickets for the inaugural Rotary Rodeo of Rockdale County, June 12-14, at the Georgia International Horse Park! Visit rockdalerodeo.com for more information and tickets!🀠

As we head into the weekend, we're reflecting on the special time of reflection we shared earlier this week at the dedication of the bench in late Rotarian Bruce Ahlstrand's memory at Phoenix Pass.

Thank you to club members and friends of Bruce who attended and shared touching tributes. We feel confident that in raising our glasses, Bruce's memory lives on in those who knew him and in a place special to him, Phoenix Pass. πŸŒΊπŸŒ³πŸ¦‹

At today's Rotary meeting, we welcomed new member Kysa Daniels, executive director of the Rockdale Coalition for Children & Families! Welcome, Kysa! We're excited to welcome her into membership and look forward to all she'll contribute to the club.

We also heard from program speaker Bailee Yarbrough, executive director of the Decatur Book Festival. Save the date for their popular festival, October 2-3, 2026, in downtown Decatur. Bailee posed great questions about favorite authors, books, and shared insight into what it takes to pull off such a feat of keynote speakers, featured authors, and vendors each year.

We appreciated the candor and perspective from ACCG Georgia Counties Executive Director Dave Wills at yesterday's meeting. Rotarians asked great questions and Dave delivered on the answers!

We also congratulated member Morgan Tabb who collected on his winnings from the 50/50 raffle at this year's golf tournament. Congratulations, Morgan!πŸ’Έ

Next week, join us on Tuesday, May 19 at 5 p.m. at Phoenix Pass as we gather for a social to remember longtime Rotarian and friend Bruce Ahlstrand and the bench installed by the club last year in his memory. Join us for a toast in Bruce's memory in a beautiful setting that was near and dear to his heart. See you there!πŸ₯‚

The Conyers Rotary Club was proud to honor students from Rockdale County High School and Heritage High School who participated in this year's Laws of Life Essay Contest at our weekly meeting on April 30.πŸ“

Special thanks to Laws of Life Chairman Daniel Digby for his efforts in securing volunteers to read the essays and coordinating with the local participating schools and students. More than 28,000 students across the state submitted essays this year and 63 Rotary clubs participated in sponsoring and funding over $19,000 in cash prizes to winning entries. HHS Senior Jase Herrington, who was unable to attend, was awarded fourth runner-up in the statewide competition! We appreciate teachers Jennifer Howell from HHS and Shannon Turner from RCHS for encouraging their students to participate!🍎

Enjoy the photos of the grade winners and honorable mentions. Club members were at rapt attention listening to Daniela Rios, Jenesis Brown, Jerniyah Hawk, and Re'Naejah Donovan share their essays. 🀩

Have a great weekend!
