💙 Rest in Peace, Gloria Steinem — and thank you. Always.

Today we honor the extraordinary life and legacy of Gloria Steinem, who passed away September 2, 2026, at the age of 92.

For more than six decades, Gloria Steinem was a fearless voice for women’s rights, equality, civil rights, reproductive freedom, peace, and social justice. As a writer, journalist, organizer, lecturer, and activist, she helped transform not only the women’s movement, but the national conversation about equality and what it means to build a more just society.

She co-founded Ms. magazine, helped establish the National Women’s Political Caucus and other influential organizations, and spent her life encouraging people to organize, speak out, vote, challenge injustice, and refuse to accept inequality as inevitable. In 2013, President Barack Obama awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her extraordinary contributions to American life.

But perhaps her greatest legacy is found in the generations of women and activists who discovered through her example that their voices mattered — and that ordinary people, working together, really can change the world.

The movements Gloria Steinem helped build continue. The fight for equality continues. And the doors she helped open must remain open for every generation that follows.

Rest in peace, Gloria.

Thank you for your courage.
Thank you for your voice.
Thank you for never giving up.
Thank you for showing generations of us what it means to speak truth, organize for change, and stand for equality.

Your work lives on. Your legacy lives on. And we will carry it forward. 💙

📣 HCDP VICE CHAIR NOMINATIONS EXTENDED

The Horry County Democratic Party has extended the nomination deadline for Second Vice Chair and Third Vice Chair through 12:00 PM on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

If you are interested in serving in one of these leadership positions, or would like to nominate someone, there is still time to submit a nomination.

The election for both positions will be conducted during the Horry County Democratic Party Executive Committee meeting on Monday, September 14, 2026.
