💧 Water Curtailment FAQs 💧

We want to thank everyone for your patience and cooperation during the current water curtailment. Due to ongoing drought conditions, conservation measures are necessary to help preserve water for essential daily use and critical services.

The good news is your conservation efforts are making a difference! We have seen decreases in both residential and commercial use across the city, and Wednesday’s rain was promising. However, we are still in a historic drought, and continued curtailment measures are necessary.

We know you have questions and want to help explain the current situation.

HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?
Central Arkansas is enduring a historic drought that began in the fall of 2025 and has resulted in severe precipitation deficits.

HOW MUCH RAINFALL DO WE NEED?
In the long term, we need about 27 inches of rain to fill the lake back to 330 feet.

WHY HASN’T CONWAY CORP DONE ANYTHING TO PREVENT THIS?
Unfortunately, we can’t control rainfall, but we do take planning for our future water needs very seriously. Decades of planning have gone into acquiring additional water rights and new water sources.

WHAT IS CONWAY CORP PLANNING?
Conway Corp’s long-term water planning efforts are specifically designed to ensure the community has the capacity and infrastructure needed to support both residential growth and economic development well into the future. Many major projects are underway or in development.

WHAT IS CONWAY CORP DOING RIGHT NOW?
Currently, we are supplementing our water supply with 2 million gallons daily from Cadron Creek and 1 million gallons day from Community Water Systems to help alleviate stress on Brewer Lake.

HOW ARE YOU PROTECTING BREWER LAKE AND THE SURROUNDING WATERSHED?
Conway Corp has an entire team of utility workers, engineers, plant managers and more working 24 hours a day, including a full-time employee who lives at the lake to help monitor the lake, the watershed and Conway Corp infrastructure. We are working to finalize a watershed development plan.

WHY AREN’T YOU GETTING WATER FROM THE ARKANSAS RIVER?
The Arkansas Department of Health does not recognize the Arkansas River as an approved source of drinking water. The river water’s quality is too poor to treat, and it functions as a discharge point for treated wastewater.

WHY ARE YOU BUILDING A DATA CENTER?
Conway Corp is not building a data center. If a proposed data center project moves forward in the future, drinking water would not be used for cooling operations. The current water curtailment is temporary and directly related to drought conditions and supply challenges. It is not connected to any data center project.

WHY ARE BUSINESSES NOT BEING ASKED TO CONSERVE?
The curtailment request applies to both residential and commercial customers. Conway Corp is communicating directly with businesses about reducing water consumption.

WHY IS CONWAY CORP ALLOWING RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES TO WATER LAWNS?
Conway Corp is in a voluntary curtailment phase and asking customers to reduce nonessential water use whenever possible. Currently, irrigation is still permitted. If we move to a Phase 2, additional restrictions will be implemented.

WHY AREN’T YOU SHUTTING DOWN BUSINESSES LIKE CAR WASHES AND GOLF COURSES?
Businesses such as carwashes, golf courses and other commercial customers are also being asked to voluntarily reduce water use. We never want to see local businesses forced to close or reduce operations because those businesses support jobs, families and livelihoods in our community. It is also important to note that many of these businesses use alternative water sources or conservation systems as part of their operations.

WHY ISN’T CONWAY CORP ENFORCING THE WATER CURTAILMENT?
Currently, the curtailment is voluntary. We are asking customers to do their part and voluntarily reduce non-essential water use. Phase 2 will include mandatory restrictions. Conway Corp will monitor compliance and evaluate enforcement measures that may include warnings, direct customer outreach and potential penalties for repeated violations.

WHY DOES MY INDIVIDUAL CONSERVATION MATTER?
More than 90 percent of our customers are residential and account for more than 60 percent of total water use. Small changes make a big impact.

HOW LONG WILL THE CURTAILMENT LAST?
We continue monitoring lake levels, weather conditions and overall water demand daily, and restrictions will remain in place as long as necessary to protect the community’s water supply. As soon as conditions improve, we will evaluate lifting or reducing curtailment measures. Updates will be provided as conditions change.

Help us congratulate Leslie on her retirement! 👏👏👏

Engineering Service Development Technician Leslie Guffey is retiring from Conway Corp after more than 30 years of service to the company and community.

Leslie was hired as a water systems designer in February 1996 and was promoted to engineering service development technician in June 2008. In her role, she worked with developers, electricians, plumbers and homeowners throughout Conway, helping coordinate utility services for new homes, subdivisions and commercial developments.

“Leslie’s dedication and knowledge have made a lasting impact on Conway Corp and the customers we serve,” Conway Corp Engineering & Planning Manager Dale Gottsponer said. “We appreciate her many years of service and wish her the very best in retirement.”

Over the years, Leslie became a familiar face to many contractors and developers across the community and said the relationships she built with customers and coworkers became one of the most rewarding parts of her career.

“I’m really going to miss my regular customers and the people I work with every day,” Leslie said. “After working together for so many years, they become more than coworkers. They’re people who supported me through some difficult times in my life, and I’ll always be grateful for that.”

Throughout her career, Leslie stepped in wherever help was needed, including assisting during major outages and storm recovery efforts. She recalled helping answer phones and enter outage tickets during the 2000 ice storm and volunteering to help dispatch crews during the June 2023 storm restoration efforts.

As Leslie looks forward to retirement, she said she is excited to spend more time with her family, including visiting her son in Pensacola and her daughter in Northwest Arkansas, as well as traveling with her parents.

She leaves this advice to current and future Conway Corp employees: “When you’re young, retirement feels far away, but the years go by fast. Conway Corp has great benefits and a strong retirement program, and that makes a huge difference later in life.”

Congratulations, Leslie!

💧 WATER CURTAILMENT UPDATE 💧

To ensure adequate water is available for our customers, our water curtailment plan will move to Phase 2 if the water level at Brewer Lake remains low on Monday, June 1.

Our water curtailment plan consists of five phases. In Phase 2, we will be asking for involuntary reduction in water usage for both business and residential customers.

Voluntary Vs. Involuntary Water Curtailment

For Phase 1, we asked customers to curtail water at their own discretion; reduced water usage wasn't a requirement. Phase 2 will require customers to follow these guidelines:

A. Customers must water their lawns, gardens and shrubs on opposite days:
• Even numbered side of the street may water on Monday, Thursday and Saturday
• Odd numbered side of street may water on Sunday, Tuesday and Friday
• No watering may be done on Wednesday
• Customers must decrease significantly their irrigation

B. Customers with unique water needs (golf courses, park areas, sports fields, etc.), as determined by Conway Corp, must decrease significantly their irrigation and schedule their irrigation at the direction of Conway Corp management.

C. Commercial, Industrial and Institutional customers may be required to decrease their process water usage.

D. Vehicles may be washed only at either high pressure, low water usage car washes or using a pressure washer or a garden hose with a shut-off nozzle.

E. Fire hydrants shall only be used for fighting fires or as preapproved by Conway Corp.

F. Splash pads which do not recycle or treat their water for reuse must cease operation.

We will provide an update on Monday, June 1. Thank you for continuing to conserve water during this time.
