The 2026 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with South Carolinians in WWII: A Path to Victory. This episode, one of nine in the series, follows our veterans from the beaches of Normandy through the hedgerows of France, continues through to Operation Market Garden and the beginning of the Battle of the Bulge. Additional sections include stories from veterans who served under General George S. Patton and moments of rest and relaxation during the war.
The film is free to the public and will be shown at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, September 9th at the Horry County Museum, located at 805 Main Street in Conway.

Join us for free 30 minute Saturday activities at the Farm! Parents can sign children up for a half hour session between 9 AM-11 AM. Group sizes will be limited. On September 12th children will learn about the importance of the barn owl to the farm family. We’ll also dissect real barn owl pellets to learn what these local birds of prey like to eat!

The L.W. Paul Living History Farm is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 AM-4 PM and is located at 2279 Harris Short Cut Road, Conway, SC 29526.

The mule was very important to farmers, and by 1940, 77% of farms in Horry County reported having at least one mule. Mules would have been the equivalent to today’s farm tractor, truck, and family car, providing strength to pull the plow, drag, and wagon. Many farmers did not have the capital to purchase a mule outright and often resorted to mortgaging the mule over a period of several years in which the farmer would pay 25 to 50 cents per month on payments.

The 2026 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with a film by South Carolina ETV on inductees from the Revolutionary War Era into the South Carolina Hall of Fame. Established in 1973, The South Carolina Hall of Fame, located in Myrtle Beach, inducts one deceased and one contemporary honoree each year. It is by law the “official” Hall of Fame for South Carolina. There are nearly 100 members of the South Carolina Hall of Fame, each of whom has made outstanding contributions to South Carolina’s heritage, history, and progress.
Biographies of Revolutionary War Era inductees include William Moultrie, Francis Marion, Thomas Sumter, Andrew Pickens, Peter Horry, William Jasper, Pierce Butler, Charles Pinckney, C.C. Pinckney, and John Rutledge.
The film is free to the public and will be shown at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, September 2nd at the Horry County Museum, located at 805 Main Street in Conway.

Field corn and sweet corn are two different varieties of corn that were – and are – important for farmers. Our field corn will be used for livestock fodder, and also to make grits and cornmeal, both essential to farmer’s diets in the early and mid-twentieth century in Horry County. Sweet corn is the corn we think of as ‘corn on the cob’ – eaten fresh, grilled, boiled or roasted. We also can our sweet corn so that it may be eaten throughout the year.
