The Conway Springs Police Department would like to send out a notice reminding the citizens of the possibility of scam calls. There are 3 main types of calls that have been reported by victims in Conway Springs. The first type of call is the IRS Scammer. The first thing We need our citizens to know is the IRS will never make first contact over the phone. They will mail you notices through the Postal Service multiple times before they attempt to make contact. These callers also request that the victim go to Wal-Mart or Target and get a large sum of money put onto gift cards, which is another thing the IRS will never ask you to do.
The second type of scam calls we've seen are the "Arrested Family Member" calls. The scammer poses as an officer of a Police Department nearby, claiming they have arrested a family member on different charges. They then ask the receiver of the call for bail money in order to release them from jail. Just like the IRS scammers, these are requests that a Police Department will never make. Once Police Departments make an arrest, they will not call family members for the arestee to make arrangements for payments.
The last and least common type of scam calls we have received reports of are the "Yes" Scammers. The first thing these scammers will ask when you pick up the phone is "Can you hear me?". When the receiver of the call says "Yes", the caller says "I'm sorry to hear that." and will hang up. The caller can then use your recorded "Yes" answer, to authorize money to come from accounts they already have the number to.

We stress the citizens of Conway Springs to please share this information, as it is extremely difficult to catch a caller, let alone return any money that has been scammed from you. Sharing this knowledge is one of the few weapons we have right now to attempt to put a stop to phone scammers. Please pass this information along to friends and family so they don't become victims themselves. Thank you and have a great day!

The Conway Springs Police Department would like to inform the citizens of Conway Springs that it now has ID-A-Child kits available at the department. These kits are one of the most important tools for law enforcement to use when attempting to locate a missing child. The kit includes a form for the parent to fill out, and a section for the child's fingerprints at the bottom. Once completed at the station, this form is sent with the parents to keep in a safe location at the home. Along with the form, an information sheet will also be given to the parent. This sheet has phone numbers to call, and instructions to follow if you believe your child has gone missing. We encourage all parents to take up this opportunity to come in and do this, not only for themselves, but for their child. It is a free-of-charge service provided by the police department and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. More information can be found here: http://www.missingkids.com/ChildID

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children recommends families have a Child ID prepared for each child in the event he or she goes missing. One of the most important pieces of this identification kit is an up-to-date, good quality photo

The Conway Springs police Department would like to thank all Conway Springs citizens for their cooperation and support of the enforced City Ordinance for fireworks. We had very few violations, and those were easily remedied with a verbal warning and a handshake. The City of Conway Springs also thanks all of you for keeping your areas clean, for the most part, this holiday season. We had no fire or EMS calls either this July 4th, which is a great accomplishment!! Again, Thank you all and have a great summer!!!

We have received multiple reports of a suspicious gentleman in the 7th and Kansas st. area. The police department has spoken with this person multiple times and have found that he lives just outside of town and is coming in to access wiFi. He has not done anything illegal and has been extremely cooperative every time the officers speak with him. We appreciate the citizens concern with this matter and will answer any questions anyone has about the situation. Thank you for your concern.

Please mind the speed limits on the streets, as children are going to be near the edges of the roadways.
