Huge shout out to the Employers and Fire Families that allowed our great State come together in a time of need!

Over 200 firefighters from at least 52 counties and 7 states left their jobs, families, and traveled hundreds of miles to help protect the life and property of those in Clark, Meade, and Morton Counties. Join us in thanking these dedicated firefighters who represented these counties and states for all their hard work.

Firefighters from Anderson, Barber, Barton, Brown, Butler, Camanche, Cherokee, Clark, Coffey, Cowley, Crawford, Dickinson, Edwards, Ellis, Finney, Ford, Geary, Grant, Gray, Greenwood, Hamilton, Haskell, Hodgeman, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Kearny, Kiowa, Kingman, Labette, Lane, Lincoln, Lyon, Marion, Marshall, McPherson, Meade, Miami, Mitchell, Montgomery, Morton, Ness, Osage, Ottawa, Pawnee, Pratt, Reno, Rice, Riley, Rush, Saline, Scott, Sedgwick, Seward, Shawnee, Stanton, Stevens, Sumner, and Wyandotte.

Engine crews and additional support also came from Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, and Wyoming.

Many in Clark, Meade, and Morton Counties have a long road ahead of them. As this phase of the fire ends, please continue to keep these communities in your thoughts and support those rebuilding in its aftermath. The strength, resilience, and generosity shown over the past week are a powerful reminder that in times of crisis, neighbors helping neighbors make all the difference.

On his way home from the fire area, Southeast District Fire Management Officer Aaron Williams captured a striking rainbow stretching across the sky in Clark County. After days of smoke, exhaustion, and difficult fire conditions, the image felt like a fitting reminder of this past week. Storms eventually give way to clearer skies, and even in the hardest moments, there are signs of hope and resilience ahead.

At the request of the State Fire Marshal’s Office, CSFD deployed with the Sumner County Task Force to Clark County KS to assist on the Herman Ranch/500 Acre Pond Fire Northwest of Ashland.

Upon arrival crews were assigned to hold the line and protect a ranch home and cattle as the fire approached. After the fire passed and the home and cattle deemed safe, crews were directed back to the south to protect the city of Ashland as the fire jumped 160 Highway south. Crews were able to stop the fire 2 miles south of 160, and Sumner County crews worked the fire until daybreak.

After another round of morning fire line inspection and clean up, the task force was demobilized and CSFD returned home around 12:30.

CSFD provided 6 members to this deployment, staffing 1 Engine and 1 Brush Truck🔥🔥

🔥 This afternoon CSFD answered a call for mutual aid from Harper County. Harper County had multiple wheat field, pasture, and brush fires going in different areas of the County. This along with high winds made the fires difficult to contain. CSFD and Argonia Fire were requested from Sumner County, responded together and worked the eastern most fire to completion. Sumner County units then moved further west to assist other agencies with another brush fire. CSFD assisted with 1 brush truck, 1 water tender, and 5 firefighters. 🔥

🚨 Fire Safety Starts With YOU 🚨

Today we had the opportunity to meet with our local high school seniors to talk about something that truly matters—their safety.

We covered a few key takeaways that can make all the difference in an emergency:🔥 Know your exits – Whether you’re at school, work, or out with friends, always be aware of how to get out quickly and safely.🏠 Get familiar with your surroundings – Take a few extra minutes to walk through where you live and spend time. Knowing your layout ahead of time can save precious seconds.🧯 Hands-on training – Students got the chance to learn how to properly operate a fire extinguisher, giving them confidence to act if needed.

🏗️ Thank you to Louie with Kiewit Power Constructors for joining in with the CSFD to be some extra hands, and gain some knowledge about the Senior Life Skills Day in hope they can present next year, and talk about like on the job site, everything they do for their safety, and share some knowledge about all the different trades that go into one of their job sites!

These small steps can have a big impact. We’re proud of these seniors for taking the time to learn and prepare—it’s knowledge that can protect not only themselves, but those around them.

Thank you for having us and for being such an engaged group!
Always remember "we don't rise to the occasion, we revert back to our training"

🚨 Public Education… but make it fashion 🚨

Today our Fire Chief took “command presence” to a whole new level while speaking to the high school seniors… and let’s just say, the message was LOUD and CLEAR 🐦🔥

Nothing says “pay attention to fire safety” like a 6-foot-tall mystery bird passionately explaining emergency preparedness. We’re pretty sure 100% of students will remember today’s lesson… even if they forget everything else this semester.

Rumor has it:✔️ Fire safety awareness = achieved✔️ Crowd engagement = unmatched✔️ Chief’s dignity = still under review

Special thanks to our Chief for really spreading his wings for the community today. 🫡
