Today, we honor Juneteenth - a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates freedom, while encouraging reflection on the importance of building communities where every person is valued, supported, and treated with dignity.

We are grateful for the diverse seniors, volunteers, supporters, and neighbors who make our community stronger every day.

In observance of Juneteenth, the Meals on Wheels Montgomery County office will be closed. We will resume normal business hours on Monday.

For many of our homebound seniors, the knock on the door from a Meals on Wheels volunteer may be their only social interaction of the day. Along with a nutritious meal, volunteers provide a friendly face, a wellness check, and a meaningful moment of connection.

We had a blast hosting this amazing team from Western Midstream last week!

Their energy and enthusiasm made for a fantastic volunteer experience. In just two hours, this group of 14 volunteers accomplished an incredible amount to help our community stay safe and well-fed.

Here’s a look at their impact:
🚨 200 Ready Houston Preparedness Kits: Packed with essential items and information to help seniors prepare for emergencies.
🥫 439 Emergency Meal Boxes: Each shelf-stable box contains 5 complete meals - that’s a total of 2,195 meals!

A huge thank you to Western Midstream for your time and hard work, and to Ready Houston for generously donating the preparedness kits that helped make this work possible!

What started as a small grassroots effort in 1973 has grown into a lifeline for thousands of seniors across Montgomery County.

More than 50 years ago, a group of caring community members came together with a simple mission: ensure that local seniors had access to nutritious meals and support. That mission remains at the heart of everything we do today.

Since then, Meals on Wheels Montgomery County has grown to deliver more than 340,000 meals each year and provide over 21,000 free rides annually to homebound seniors and veterans. From our Conroe kitchen, we prepare approximately 1,700 meals every day, supported by dedicated volunteers who help deliver not only meals, but also friendly visits, safety checks, and connection.

While much has changed since 1973, one thing remains the same: our commitment to helping seniors age with dignity, independence, and the support of a caring community.

Thank you to the volunteers, donors, staff, and supporters who have made this journey possible. Here's to continuing the mission for generations to come! 💙

Pets provide comfort, companionship, and unconditional love - and for many seniors, they help combat loneliness and isolation.

Yet one-third of clients with pets report going without necessities like food or medical care to ensure their furry companions are cared for.

Through our AniMeals program, Meals on Wheels Montgomery County helps keep seniors and their beloved pets together by providing pet food and essential supplies.
