During National Police Week, we pause to remember the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication of the law enforcement officers who gave their lives in service and to the communities they swore to protect.
Today, we honor eight fallen heroes of Montgomery County whose legacies continue to live on through the lives they touched and the service they provided:
• Sheriff Samuel Grimmett, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office- End of Watch: April 11, 1847
�• Deputy Abner B. Womack, Sr., Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office- End of Watch: April 7, 1876
�• Constable Thomas Beyett, Montgomery County Constable Precinct 3- End of Watch: August 6, 1931
�• Sergeant Ed Holcomb, Jr., Conroe Police Department- End of Watch: September 14, 1982
�• Officer Peter Johnson, Jr., Lone Star College System (formerly NHMCCD)- End of Watch: June 8, 1997
�• Deputy John David Garcia, Montgomery County Constable Precinct 5- End of Watch: July 17, 2003
�• Sergeant Stacey Baumgartner, Patton Village Police Department- End of Watch: June 19, 2016
�• Deputy Charles Rivette, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office- End of Watch: February 21, 2024
These officers made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting and serving others: responding to dangerous calls, pursuing suspects, and carrying out the everyday duties of law enforcement that can turn tragic in an instant.
Their courage, commitment, and selflessness will never be forgotten. Montgomery County continues to honor these heroes through memorial ceremonies, roadway dedications, and tributes that ensure their legacy lives on for generations to come.
We remember them with profound respect, gratitude, and honor.
