ELEVATED TO NEAR-CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS EXPECTED ACROSS NORTHERN WISCONSIN THIS AFTERNOON...

Pine fuels have reached their peak volatility and fine fuels have still not greened up over northern WI, so dry, windy and warm weather will bring elevated to near-critical fire weather conditions to northern WI this afternoon.

Special permits are not approved, annual permits are suspended today.

Burning with an annual permit is suspended today and tomorrow in Marathon, Lincoln, Taylor, Oneida and Vilas counties. Special permits are authorized after inspection only in Marathon, Taylor and Lincoln counties with AFL approval and suspended in Oneida and Vilas.

Good morning, Red Flag Warning!!!!



Although some of us received a little rain last night, today’s fire danger ranges from high to EXTREME. Vilas and Iron county are two of the counties that have a red flag warning. There are graphics attached that you can use. Tomorrow looks like it will be another day with very high to extreme conditions. Please be vigilant and help us share the prevention messages.

We had a busy night. We completed our spring road clean up tonight and Krista from Energy Mart gave us each a certificate for a free sub!!! Thank you so much. We then headed over to Torch Lake and did water rescue training. Great job Conover Fire Crew!!!

“Wildfire Danger is Very High today. Burning permits area suspended. Do your part and reduce the fuel in your structure ignition zone!

The structure ignition zone is a building and its surroundings out to 100-200 feet. Research has shown that the characteristics of buildings and their immediate surroundings determine the risk of ignition. That’s why preparing your structure ignition zone is so important.

Since you, as the homeowner, are the only one who has authority to make changes around your property, you have a vital role in protecting it. The steps you take to reduce or change the fuels in your structure ignition zone could determine whether or not your property survives a wildfire.”
