Friday, September 11, 2026
The Flood Debris Dump is CLOSED until further notice. The EMA has contracted with a FEMA operator and the contract has not been approved. Therefore until that is taken care of an operator is not available at this time. Due to flood recovery security requirements the dump cannot be used unmanned. The City apologizes for the confusion but this was outside our ability to control. Please forward any questions to Emergency Fayette County Department Of Homeland Security & Emergency Management at (766) 222-1530

ONE STOP SHOP with FEMA COMING!

09/11/2026

➡️ If your home was badly damaged by the recent severe storms in Indiana, Red Cross financial assistance may be available.

📅 Applications will be accepted through Sept. 18. We know recovery takes time; this deadline helps our teams review requests promptly while continuing to connect people with the support and resources they need.

If your primary residence was destroyed or sustained significant structural damage, you may be eligible for assistance. Assistance does not need to be repaid, and applications are completed in person.

Visit RedCross.org/GetHelp for eligibility details, what to bring and the latest service locations and hours.

If you have already received a message from the Red Cross about assistance, call (571) 587-1949 to make an appointment. Calls are answered daily from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. EDT.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: REBUILDING AFTER A FLOOD

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: REBUILDING AFTER A FLOOD

Rebuilding after a flood? Understanding Base Flood Elevation (BFE) is your first step. 🌊🏘️

What is BFE? Think of it as the estimated water height during a major flood; specifically, a storm with a 1% chance of happening in any given year.

Why it matters:

* Building codes: State and Local codes usually require your lowest floor to sit at or above the BFE.

* Insurance Savings: Building higher above the BFE significantly lowers your annual flood insurance premiums.

* Risk Awareness: Properties below or near the BFE face a much higher risk during severe weather.

How to check your property's flood status:

1. Visit the Indiana Floodplain Information Portal (infip.dnr.in.gov) and search your address.

2. Click the new feature option on the left menu, then click your home on the map.

3. Click Create on the left menu to finalize your point.

4. Look at the attributes on the right side of the screen and click the link to create a FARA Report.

5. Fill out the quick survey form at the bottom, click submit, and your PDF report will generate shortly.

For local building requirements and assistance, reach out to Area Planning at (765) 825-9808.
