SEPTEMBER IS HUNGER ACTION MONTH! 🍎
Yesterday, Rockland County Legislature Chairman Jay Hood issued a proclamation declaring September Hunger Action Month in Rockland County—bringing much-needed attention to a critical issue affecting far too many of our neighbors.
We were honored to be joined by Barry Lewis of the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York and proud to have TOUCH Executive Director Julian Palmer present the findings of a new report commissioned by the County Legislature examining the state of hunger in Rockland County. We stood alongside partners from across our community who are on the front lines of this fight.
Hunger is a big problem—and it doesn’t affect everyone equally. Children, older adults, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable neighbors are disproportionately impacted. As the lead agency of the Rockland Community Against Hunger Coalition, TOUCH is committed to leading the way—rescuing and redistributing food, connecting people with nutritious resources, and building a stronger, healthier community where everyone has enough to eat and the opportunity to thrive.
We thank the Rockland County Legislature for recognizing Hunger Action Month and for supporting research that helps us better understand the realities of hunger in our community. Good data helps us take stronger action. We will be releasing results from the report throughout the coming month.
This Hunger Action Month, let’s move beyond awareness.
