At 20:21, Co. 13, Sq. 4 & Sq. 8 were dispatched for an overturned tractor trailer in the 9600 block of Richmond Hwy. Additional information came in of two tractor trailers overturned with multiple lanes of traffic blocked. Chief 13 requested Co. 16 be added to the call with unknown entrapment, injuries, and two tractor trailers overturned. Chief 13 arrived on scene to find one semi with two trailers overturned blocking all westbound and one eastbound lanes with all occupants out and uninjured requesting to be checked by EMS. Rescue 13 (w/4) responded and blocked the westbound lanes just prior to the crash to start redirecting traffic. Chief 13 established command and advised that Co. 16 could return to service as well as a small active diesel spill. 4A2 arrived and began evaluating the patients. Chief 16 arrived on scene and assisted with blocking the eastbound lanes. Engine 13-1 (w/5), Truck 13 (w/2), & Command 13 (w/1) responded and assisted with traffic control. EMS 8-6, Medic 8, & Medic 8-6 responded and were returned to service with 4A2 able to handle. VDOT was requested and responded to the scene to take over traffic control. Crews remained on scene and assisted VDOT and the tow company with clearing the debris from all lanes. Once the eastbound lanes and one westbound lane were reopened, all Co. 13 units cleared the scene while VDOT & VSP remained on scene with the tow company.

You may have noticed a new addition to the fire house lately. Over the last few weeks, we installed a LED sign with a rock bed around it. Be sure to keep an eye out for it when driving by to stay up to date on important information, fundraisers and other events we are involved in!

We would like to give a a huge thank you to Finly Corporation for donating the materials for the concrete pad! As well as RSG Landscaping, LLC and Leesville Landscape Supplies for donating the materials needed for the rock bed!

The Concord Volunteer Fire Department is proud to introduce the addition of HAAS Alert to Rescue 13 & Engine 13-1. HAAS Alert Safety Cloud is a public safety solution that delivers real-time digital alerts to motorists when emergency vehicles are approaching or when they are approaching an active emergency scene. This life-saving technology provides drivers with crucial extra warning time – proven to reduce collision risks by up to 90%.

The department voted Monday night at our monthly business meeting to install HAAS Alert into Rescue 13 & Engine 13-1, the first out apparatus for all MVCs, after trialing the service for several months. In an effort to eliminate the number of near misses in vehicles versus our apparatus and personnel each year and the ability to warn drivers before they see us, the department voted to purchase HAAS. Rescue 13 & Engine 13-1 were chosen to have HAAS installed in them due to the amount of time they spend responding to MVCs and sitting on the highway to best utilize the HAAS system to reach the most people possible.

While Virginia Move Over laws require drivers to slow down and change lanes for active emergency vehicles, flashing lights and sirens often don’t always provide enough warning to drivers, especially at high speeds or in poor visibility. Safety Cloud solves this by delivering safety alerts to drivers through multiple channels:

• Navigation apps: Automatic warnings appear in Waze and Apple Maps
• Vehicle dashboards: Built-in alerts for 2018 and newer Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and RAM vehicles, plus 2024 and newer Volkswagen vehicles
• CMV Systems: Real-time emergency vehicle alerts delivered to commercial motor vehicles in select states, via the Fleetworthy network.

The system requires no action from drivers beyond using their regular navigation apps. CVFD joins more than 4,000 agencies nationwide already using this protection system, with HAAS Alert actively expanding to additional vehicle platforms.

For more information about this life-saving technology, visit www.haasalert.com.

Engine 13 (w/5) & Tanker 13-3 (w/2) responded. E-13 arrived with its crew pulling an attack line to the vehicle. Crews had water on the fire and the fire extinguished within 2 minutes of E-13’s arrival. Tanker 13-3 arrived behind E-13 and supplied it water. Command 13 (w/2) responded and blocked the right turn lane of 460 E behind T13-3. Crews remained on scene until the vehicle could be towed.
