New Hampshire Agriculture in the Classroom

New Hampshire Agriculture in the Classroom We are a non-profit organization providing agriculture education to K-12 students and educators in NH.

We work directly with teachers and students, sharing agriculturally focused curriculum and programs. These include curriculum materials, teacher workshops and consultation, in-school presentations, School to Farm Days, and Ag Literacy Day. We envision a time when young people (and their families) will know where their food and fiber come from and do what they can to support local NH farms.

Addition to the edible landscape, winecap mushrooms. Inoculated straw over a couple days, laid it over some soil cover saplings, and added hardwood pellets over the top. We’ll see how this experiment works out.

Had the FCS teacher and the Chemistry teacher from the HS I used to teach at come over to see striping in action last Friday. They hope to start an afterschool club next year that taps some trees with our Elementary classes!

Great field experience for our agroforestry peeps today! Visited Dunk’s Mushrooms in Brentwood, the silvopasture at the UNH organic dairy in Lee, and the food forest and forest farming plot at Kingman Farm in Madbury. Thanks to William Dunkerley, Jason Scrunton, Evan Ford, Aaron Guman, Ryan Smith and Edwin Garcia for their interest and expertise! Lots of conversation and knowledge exchanged!

Family trip to Iceland and I just couldn’t stay away from work! At the Reykjavík Botanical gardens there were some fantastic displays of community agriculture and edible landscapes. Turns out a lot of the local municipal landscapes utilize landscape stock that provides fruits and berries for people and birds. Lots of currants and herbs. Nice way to incorporate ag and green space.
