Maintenance work will be performed on the Sagamore Bridge on Tuesday, September 15th, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. During this time, traffic on the Sagamore Bridge will be reduced to one lane of travel in each direction.

The sidewalk on the bridge will remain open during work.

No wide loads will be permitted to cross the bridge while the lane restrictions are in place.

Sept. 11, 2026, marked the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. To commemorate the tragic events and honor those who lost their lives, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers New England District team, led by District Engineer Col. Charles W. Comfort, held a flag-lowering ceremony and observed a moment of silence on the morning of Sept. 11 at its Concord Park headquarters. The moment of silence began at exactly 8:46 a.m., marking the precise moment the first hijacked plane struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

Twenty-five years after the September 11 attacks, we pause to remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the courage shown by first responders, service members, and communities across the Nation.

In the hours that followed, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District answered the call—supporting a unified national response during a moment of profound grief and resolve. Our service reflected the enduring commitment of the Corps: to support the Nation when it is needed most.

As we remember 9/11, we honor those who were lost and reaffirm the values of service, resilience, and unity that carried our Nation forward.

This Monday, September 7, we celebrate Labor Day—a national tribute to the strength, dedication, and achievements of the American worker. The origins of this holiday run deep; according to the Department of Labor, the first Labor Day was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City. By 1894, 23 additional states had adopted the observance, leading President Grover Cleveland to sign legislation on June 28, 1894, designating the first Monday in September as a federal holiday.

While this day represents a well-deserved opportunity to step back and reflect on our achievements, the vital mission of the New England District does not take a holiday. I want to express my sincere appreciation to our team members who will be working through the weekend. Our field personnel will be stationed at our recreational sites, serving as exceptional ambassadors for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and ensuring that visitors have a safe, enjoyable experience. The more I learn about the depth of our operations, the more I appreciate the tireless dedication of our workforce. Thank you for your selfless service.

For those who have the day off, I encourage you to relax and enjoy quality time with family and friends. You have earned this break. However, as you enjoy barbecues, boating, or other recreational activities, please keep safety at the forefront of everything you do. I ask that you remain vigilant: never drink and drive, always wear your life jacket when on or near the water, apply sunscreen, and stay hydrated.

Please look out for one another so that we can all return on Tuesday refreshed, healthy, and ready to continue delivering our essential program for New England and the nation.

Mohawk continues to make excellent progress reinforcing the existing jetty and beginning the build-out of the spur.

In the attached photo you have a view from the large armor stone that has been placed on the existing jetty as part of a reinforcement section from which the spur will extend. Stone stockpiles can be seen in the water next to the existing jetty. These stockpiles will be used as a bedding layer (smaller stone) on top of the marine mattresses (now underwater), with the larger armor stone used to complete the dimensions of the first section of the spur.

Mohawk will continue to work throughout the fall and into the winter as long as mother nature allows.

Brian worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District for 17 years and enjoyed his work as videographer and photographer.
