🔥 As temperatures drop: Charge Smart & Stay Fire Safe!

Phones, tablets, e-bikes, and power tools all run on lithium-ion batteries. They make life easier, but when they’re damaged, overcharged, or left charging unattended, they can overheat and start a fire.

✔️ Charge devices on hard, flat surfaces, not in bed or on the couch
✔️ Use the cord and charger that came with the device
✔️ Unplug and stop charging if a battery gets hot, swells, or smells strange
✔️ Never charge e-bikes or scooters in hallways, exits, or bedrooms
✔️ Check that your smoke alarms are working

Fire safety starts with small habits. Reduce your risk of a house fire by sharing this with your family and friends! 🔥

🔋📱 Fire Prevention Tip: Unplug Once You’re Charged! 🔥

We use our phones, tablets, and other electronic devices every day, but did you know that how long you leave them charging matters?
As part of our Charge into Fire Safety campaign, we’re reminding everyone to stop charging devices and batteries once they’re fully charged.

✅ Unplug your device when charging is complete.
✅ Follow the manufacturer’s charging instructions.
✅ Charge devices on a hard, flat surface—not on beds, couches, or blankets.
✅ Keep charging devices away from anything that can catch fire.

⚠️ A good habit to remember: Don’t leave devices charging longer than necessary, especially overnight or when you’re away from home.

A few simple changes to your charging routine can help reduce fire risks and keep your family safe!

🎄🎁 Christmas is right around the corner! 🎁🎄

As you’re making your holiday shopping list, you may be considering gifts like e-bikes, scooters, hoverboards, laptops, tablets, and other devices powered by lithium-ion batteries. 🔋

Before you put that gift under the tree, keep these important safety tips in mind:
✅ Purchase devices that are listed by a qualified testing laboratory.
🔌 Use only the battery and charging cord designed for the device.
📖 Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
🔋 Charge devices in a flat, dry area away from children, direct sunlight, and exits.
🌡️ Store batteries at room temperature and away from anything that can catch fire.
⚡ Once a device is fully charged, remove the charger.

A great gift should bring joy—not a fire. Take a few extra minutes to Charge into Fire Safety this holiday season! 🔥🎄

🔥 Fire Prevention Week: Charge into Fire Safety!

Today’s Fire Prevention Week tip is all about e-bikes and lithium-ion batteries. 🚲🔋

If you have an e-bike, where you charge it matters!

When charging your e-bike battery:

✅ Charge it in a flat, dry area.
☀️ Keep it away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
💧 Keep the battery and charger away from liquids.
👧 Keep charging equipment away from children.
⚠️ Make sure the e-bike is positioned where it won’t fall or become damaged.
🚪 Keep charging areas clear of exits and pathways so a battery fire doesn’t block your way out.

Remember, lithium-ion battery fires can develop quickly. Follow the manufacturer's charging instructions and use the charger designed for your battery.

A safe place to charge can make a big difference. Charge into Fire Safety! 🔥🔋

🔥 Fire Prevention Week – Charge into Fire Safety!

We’re kicking off Fire Prevention Week by talking about something many of us do every single day—charging our devices. 🔋📱💻

Phones, tablets, laptops, and other devices powered by lithium-ion batteries can become a fire hazard when they are damaged, improperly charged, or overheated.

Today’s tip: Charge smart!

✅ Charge devices on a hard, flat surface like a desk, table, or counter.
❌ Avoid charging devices on beds, couches, blankets, or other soft surfaces where heat can become trapped.
🔌 Use the charger and charging equipment recommended by the manufacturer.
👀 If a battery or device becomes unusually hot, swells, leaks, or shows signs of damage, stop using it.

A few simple charging habits can help keep your home, family, and community safer.

🔥 Training Today Helps Us Investigate Fires Tomorrow 🔥

Earlier this week, members of the Cabarrus County Fire Marshal’s Office spent the day at Flowes Store Fire Department conducting hands-on testing and training.

We tested several products and items that our Fire Marshals regularly encounter in local businesses and schools to see how they react when exposed to fire conditions. We also tested various appliances to observe what can happen when they are connected to extension cords.

These types of scenarios are things we frequently encounter during fire investigations, and hands-on testing helps us better understand how products and equipment behave during a fire.

We are thankful to Flowes Store Fire Department for allowing us to use their facility and for supporting our continued training!

⚠️ Remember: Extension cords are designed for temporary use and should never be used as a substitute for permanent wiring. Never overload an extension cord, and always use electrical equipment according to the manufacturer's instructions

A little electrical safety can go a long way toward preventing a fire. 🧯
