Twenty-five years ago today, our nation was forever changed.

As the generation who witnessed the events of 9/11, we must ensure those who come after us understand the gravity of that day and the way we came together in hope and love for one another and our country.

Year after year, we will continue to solemnly unite, keeping our promise to never forget the lives lost and the heroic actions of the hundreds of firefighters, police officers, emergency personnel, and ordinary citizens who rushed towards danger and gave all to save others.

Our granite stone and maple trees at Fire Station 8, the location of our annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony, represent the selfless sacrifices of the lives lost that fateful day and will forever remind us of the enduring strength and forbearance of the American spirit.

Don’t forget to join us THIS SATURDAY, September 12 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. as Art Walk on Union returns to Downtown Concord NC!

Spend the day discovering local artists, exploring The Galleries at the Cabarrus Arts Council, enjoying live musical performances, and experiencing all that Downtown Concord offers.

Also returning this year is a free shuttle between Downtown Concord and the ClearWater Arts Center & Studios. Visitors are encouraged to stop by ClearWater Arts Center to view the “Wild Paint: Adventures in Abstraction” exhibit currently on display in the main gallery and meet with some of the tenant artists and see their works.

Last week’s Concord 101 session put participants' budget skills to the test!

First, they learned from City Manager Lloyd Payne about how our City operates under a council-manager form of government and the services cities vs. counties are allowed to operate under state statutes. He also walked through the City’s current budget.

To give our Concord 101ers hands-on experience in managing a city budget, they worked together on an exercise where they had to stretch their allotted funds as much as possible to make sure they were able to maintain the City’s essential services, plan for the future, and account for unexpected expenses - simulating real world challenges and the tough decisions our leaders have to make.

This week, they heard from Team Concord’s Planning & Development Services Department, Cabarrus Economic Development, and the Cabarrus Chamber and learned how they all play a part in supporting local businesses, our city’s strategic growth, and creating opportunities for residents to thrive.

⚠️ Heads up, Concord drivers!

9/9/26 at 8:45 a.m. UPDATE: Morehead Road is now reopened.


A single-vehicle crash involving a dump truck has caused Morehead Road to be closed between Concord Parkway South and Victory Lane.

Duke Energy is aware of the incident and is sending crews to the area to replace damaged utility poles. The road will be closed for several hours, please use caution and avoid the area is possible.

Don’t miss your last chance to visit the Caldwell Park splash pad before it closes for the season!

While it’s typically closed on Mondays for maintenance, we’ll be keeping it open all weekend + MONDAY, September 7 to give residents a little more time to enjoy it before summer comes to an end.

💦 The splash pad is FREE and open 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. through Labor Day - Monday, September 7.

The splash pad will close for the season after Labor Day.

The countdown is on for the return of Concord’s most anticipated fall arts festival – Art Walk on Union! Art and music will soon fill the streets as Art Walk on Union returns to Downtown Concord NC on Saturday, September 12, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Also returning this year, there will be a free shuttle between the event and ClearWater Arts Center & Studios. Visitors are encouraged to stop by ClearWater to view the “Wild Paint: Adventures in Abstraction” exhibit currently on display in the main gallery and meet with some of the tenant artists and see their works.

Here’s what you need to know before you go:

🎨 More than 90 Artists and vendor booths will be on Union Street between the Concord Library and Corban Avenue.

🍴Food trucks will be on Cabarrus Avenue between Union Street and Church Street.

🚻 Public restrooms are available on Cabarrus Avenue and at Rotary Square.

🎶 Music: The stage with live music will be located on Union Street North near the Concord Library.

🪑 Lawn Chairs: Visitors are welcome to bring lawn chairs to comfortably enjoy the music.

🚫 No outside alcoholic beverages permitted. Please refer to the Downtown Concord Social District webpage for the district boundaries and a list of participating businesses: concordnc.gov/SocialDistrict.

🅿️ Parking: Free parking is available in the Municipal Parking Deck, Cabarrus County Parking Deck, Bicentennial Lot, and the Cabarrus County Lot on Church Street. A full listing of public parking is available online at DowntownConcordNC.com/Parking.

🚌 Shuttle: The free shuttle between Downtown Concord and ClearWater Arts Center & Studios will run every 15 minutes. The shuttle pickup and drop off will be on Barbrick Avenue.

🚧 Road Closures: Cabarrus Avenue between Market Street and Church Street, along with Union Street between Corban Avenue and the Concord Library will be closed from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Art Walk on Union is presented by the City of Concord and the Cabarrus Arts Council and sponsored by Uwharrie Bank and Fifth Third Bank.

Join us as we honor the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, and remember the innocent lives lost and the heroic actions and sacrifices of our first responders.

This special ceremony takes place annually at Concord Fire Station 8, the location of the City's 9/11 memorial rock and maple trees, both representing the selfless sacrifice of life made by hundreds of firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency personnel, and everyday heroes, and the lasting symbol of the strength and forbearance of the American Spirit.

Our offices will be closed Monday, September 7 for Labor Day.

♻️ There will be no Solid Waste collection on Monday. All customers will have a one-day delay for garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky waste collection.

🚌 Concord Kannapolis Area Transit (Rider) will be closed and buses will not operate on Monday. Regular service will resume on Tuesday, September 8.

🏀 City of Concord Parks & Recreation rec centers will follow holiday hours on Monday, September 7, and open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

🎣 Lake Fisher and the David Phillips Activity Center will be closed.

🎨 ClearWater Arts Center & Studios is open to tenants and their guests. The ClearWater Ceramics Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Labor Day.
