TOUR CANCELLATIONS: Due to heavy rains yesterday afternoon and evening, all Fate Bell rock art tours for today, Wednesday, April 15th, are cancelled. All tour reservations will be issued full refunds. Tours may also be cancelled for tomorrow (Thursday), depending on conditions in the canyon.

The park has received nearly two inches of rain since Saturday, resulting in a significant amount of flowing water in the canyons, causing extremely hazardous conditions on the canyon floors. We never complain about rain in West Texas, but unfortunately, heavy rains do result in tour cancellations.

Thank you so much for your understanding, and we look forward to resuming our normal tour schedule in the next few days.

WEEKEND HEAT ADVISORY: Warm weather is moving into the area, beginning tomorrow, which will result in dangerously high afternoon temperatures. Here are some reminders if you're planning to hike in the park:

Hike early! Plan to be off the trail by noon.

Stay protected from the sun! Our trails have very little shade - so wear sun protection and a hat with a wide brim.

Drink BEFORE you feel thirsty, to avoid dehydration. Eat salty snacks.

High temperatures on our trails can be DEADLY to pets - please leave your dog at home.

Be prepared! Check in with park staff before your hike, to get a permit and learn about any trail closures. Carry a trail map and a fully charged cell phone, in case of emergency.

Please call our park headquarters at (432) 292-4464 if you have any questions!

NAME THAT CRITTER!! This little fella was recently seen enjoying a mid-afternoon snack near a park building. Leave your "name that critter" guess in the comments!
**ANSWER** This little fella is a Mexican Ground Squirrel, commonly found in the grassy and brushy areas of New Mexico, southern and western Texas, and Mexico. As you can see in the photo, their spring diet primarily consists of green vegetation, but by summer, insects become their snack of choice! Watch for these interesting little ground squirrels when you're visiting the park!
