There is potential for scattered evening thunderstorms that could be strong to severe. Confidence is highest across north and northeastern portions of the area. There is a Slight Risk (level 2 of 5) for much of the area. Damaging winds gusts would be the main threat, but large hail is possible as well.

For first responders, taking care of our behavioral health is just as important as taking care of our physical health. This September, we’re reminding everyone that support, education, and resources are available—and sometimes simply knowing what to look for or how to help can make a difference.

The First Responder Center for Excellence offers FREE online behavioral health training designed specifically for the first responder community, including:

The number one source of Home Fires? Your Kitchen. Cooking fires are the leading cause of home fires and injuries in North Carolina. Not faulty wiring. Not old smoke alarms. Your stove!

Here's the scary part: Most cooking fires happen in seconds. And most are preventable.

âś… Never leave cooking unattended: Not even to check on something else. If you leave the kitchen, turn off the stove.
âś… Keep flammable items away: Towels, curtains, paper, packaging. All belong far from the stove.
âś… Turn pot handles inward: Keep them from being bumped or grabbed by children.
âś… If a grease fire starts, DON'T use water: Use a fire extinguisher or cover the pan with a metal lid to smother it.

For renters and apartment residents: Discuss fire safety with your landlord. Know the locations of extinguishers and familiarize yourself with escape routes. Your kitchen is the heart of your home, so keep it safe! 🔥

Share this with someone who loves to cook, or someone just learning. Remind them: Never leave a kitchen unattended!

Additional showers and storms are expected through Saturday. Rainfall totals of 1-2" are forecast area-wide, with locally heavier amounts possible where storms recur.
Stay safe and remember: Turn Around Don't Drown! 🚗🚫💧
